Cheap/Quick Alternative to Footholds???

What does everyone think of these Side Lifter Wedges from Hydro-Turf as an alternative to footholds?

I know they won't even compare to footholds, but are they good enough to use to start learning stabs and barrell rolls?

I figure I could use these until I find a really really nice squarenose or I get the money/time to put footholds in my roundnose.

I'm up at school until Thanksgiving and I live in an apartment so I have absolutely no tools to install footholds. I figure I could slap these on there to hold me over until winter.

I'm looking for some feedback from people who have actually used these.

honestly, if you are wanting to try to get inverted, dont waste your time........ they wont hold your feet in place. I had the jettrim side mats with the built in lifters, they were better than nothing, but did nothing to lock your feet in place.........

It'll let you bunny hop a little higher, but nothing even in the ballpark compared to true foot wells. Don't waste you time. If you really want lifters, go down to a fabric store, find some foam block and contact cement them to the sides of your tray, cheap probably under $10.

if you really wanted to go ghetto.

get a hockey puck, cut it in half and put 2 or 3 wood screws where the holds could go.

then when you want to put holds in u cut out that section.

that would be a cheap and easy way to get something holding you in

The first time I attachd my HT Lifters, I mounted them as I had seen them in pics, parallel to the tray. They worked ok for a little bit, but I never felt secure at all.

My second attempt(since using the self adhesive blocks is by no means even semi-permanent) I mounted them at an angle, so the front of the lifters were actually touching my tray pad and the rear of the lifters were about 4" off the tray. I could wedge my feet in much better, and didn't slip out even a percentage as much as I did originally.

The wedges are enough to stab with, that is how I started. I have some on the wifes ski and they work alright. I have came out of them a couple times trying to stab her octane, but it is heavy. definately screw them to the sides.

I've seen some use spacers where they screw them too the sides and counter sink the screw head. If your screwing into the ski why not put in a footstrap or two. They are pretty cheap for the basic dakine straps.

if youre going to do straps..the slutty method works EXCELLENT

weld some acorn nuts to a washer (all SS of course)..epoxy or glass the inserts into the tray and they are then removeable!

I used those t nuts they sell at hardware stores for furniture. Glassed them in then turfed over them. YOu heat up the turf with a heat gut then give it a tap with a rubber mallet and it makes a perfect cut out in the turf. I have yet to use them though.

I think I'll give em a try. They're better than nothing. I'll let you all know how they work. I'm going to mount them like SXIPro said to do with them angled down.

Rick Roy had Velcro hook shoes and Velcro loop turf.

AP Designs makes the side pads with the lifter wedges. From the picture it doesn’t look like it would do much if you where to hit rough surf though. The reason I say to go with the AP Designs mats is because they have clean finished edges, and hydro turf is just cut. That could attract people’s attention to the fact that you have covers on your turf. Make it look clean and maybe nobody will notice.

is it okay to just screw some typ of wood/plastic screws in the tray to mount the footholds? or is it some kind of foam that must be kept out of water? or is it just plastic down to where the jet-unit sits? i have some straps/footholds from an old wakeboard i wanna try out:headbang: something like Idoks last pics...
