yes we checked it, it seemed ok, did some cleaning. andrew, did you have to do any adjustments to any of the actual connections internally, like bend the prongs to make better connections?

Weak, intermittant connections from the lanyard/stop functions can cause all kinds of running problems. Do you have another s/s/s you can try?

What a nightmare.. I know you said you have new outer wears but after my expierence with those,( similar symptoms as you ) I'd rather drape my carbs in underwear then outerwear.. but mine were well used and holding water..
just try it without them, even though there new..
Have you done a leak down test yet..

I'll have to save this thread,a lot of good ideas here.. would have never thought of the reserve line touching the bottem of tank !!

thanks flightrisk, we are changing out the CDI (again) tonight and im going to get a pulse coil on friday (install on friday night). if you want to bring it along just in case you can, but i really don't want to take up everyones ride time trying to work on my boat, we'll see how the pulse coil and cdi swap does and go from there.

A friend of mine had a sea doo 951 that had a similar problem. He checked everything and even took it to dealer who put it in a test tank and they kept replacing things like ignition coil pick sensor and he was about to change out the ignition brain.
He brought it out to the river with us and indeed it worked fine when cold but after a few minutes it started to run bad . He said it ran fine before and that no one messed with the carbs. I saw he was using outerwears so I pulled the outerwears half off and it ran much better then I pulled the outerwears completely off and it never did it again. It turned out the outer wears were dirty enough to cause a restriction which caused a richer condition. I should have charged him something.

Screw that shotgun method you're doing. You can throw parts at it all day, it's a waste.

1. Is your cooling system working correctly? Is your pisser pissing good? Idk yamaha, but kawasaki limits RPM when you're overheating.
2. Recreate the bogging problem. With it running on the dock, pull cylinder #1 one, it keeps running. Pull cylinder #2 and it dies. Cylinder #1 is your problem cylinder.
3. Pull the problem cylinder's wire and check for spark, do you have a strong blue spark?
4. Do a leak down test on the motor. By pressurizing the cylinders you may find a water leak into the cylinders.
5. What color are the spark plugs? Fouled?

Have you ever overheated that motor?? Whatever problem you got there is limited to one cylinder from what you described. Let me know what you find.

I'm having the same issue.... I had about a teaspoon of water in the separator filter. I be dammmmmed if I'm taking pulling my ski apart to check electrical stuff since it was all rebuilt JSS, besides I got a bike that needs TLC now and I've been putting it off for about 5 years now.

My ski would haul azz til it started bobbing and bouncing, tail stands made me think I was way too lean cause the ski would clear up once I got the gas tank nice and high, but all that was doing was keeping the water in the separator. Ski ran great on the trailer and after a no wake zone.

I will follow up tomorrow as to if this fixed it.

See the water in the bottom? This was the contents of my separator. BTW you have to pull the separator out of the ski and hold in the sun to see the water.

hey guys i know it's been a while on this thread, but i thought i would shine some light on the current situation. seems that at the free ride my father and i decided to get ballsy and just try and try until we got it, well after about 6 sets of plugs (damn thing eats them up) we found the by tweaking one of the carbs slightly (about 1/8-1/16 turn) in we somehow made it happy. i'm not sure what is different about that carb (pop off?), but i know there is nothing internal (like a clogged filter) that is making it do this because we tore both carbs down (brand new black jack 44's) and everything seemed squeaky clean. not sure what we did, but screw it, im just happy the damn thing runs and i have put my MSD enhancer back in, and it runs fine with it also. Man i don't know what the hell is up with this thing, but it rips now. guess it just goes to show, that if it is broke, DON"T TRY AND FIX IT!!!

That is insane bro. Pop off can vary from carb to carb even with both having the same internals, springs get bent and levers get bent slightly and that changes everything. Your better off checking the pop off and getting them sinked than leaning one out further than the other.

I was really thinking you had a cracked cylinder or cases causing water / air intrusion the more I read this thread. And NEVER count out the freakn waterbox bro. They can REALLY case so HUGE issues that you would NEVER guess they could cause. Random and crazy issues. I replaced everything but the cases and crank on a motor one time chasing the waterbox issue. Broken baffle would randomly black exit side of waterbox and cause it to run like a bannana in the tail pipe but put it on the trlr and shut it off and the piece falls and its ready to ride again.
