Other Buying and selling new skis

I'm moved by DASA power!
If you get real good with a big boy style boat, red bull will give you free product, I was a trainer for the Capitals hockey team and I have a lifetime supply of Gatorade! Sugar never goes bad! And if you have redbulls who needs Starbucks, you need vodka way more than coffee. My .02.

Personally I build myself a ski, ride it then sell itwhen I want something different.
Some I like longer than others. You don't have to commit to owning a ski for any length of time. It's not an asset, its an expense, the longer u keep it the more u lose.

some people just really like projects, and actually enjoy wrenching on skis!

I'm taking my 650sx all the way down to the bare hull this winter just because I enjoy working on the skis and it's fun and gives me something to do through the long months. In the summer I have little to do on the weekends, I get home after skiing at 9pm, in the morning go and check the plugs, charge battery, check carb/pipe settings, etc. Just because it's fun, and do that every ride, sometimes 3 times a weekend.

As you said, some people just like working on stuff. And if you can make a profit, why not do it. Especially if you already have your favorite ski, go build another one and sell that one, but you still have your personal ski there.

A 650sx is a $500 ski and yeah you can put a couple thousand into it but thats it. Im referring to the $20k, $30k, $40k jet skis. The guys that build these spend hundreds of hours setting these skis up right, and buying all the best :):):):). When they sell these skis they might make a couple thousand. Was that $2k worth 100 hours of Saving/planning/buying/waiting/modifying/assembling/selling/shipping? ($2k / 100 hrs. = $20 an hour.) More then likely they spend a lot more time then 100 hours.

So for $20/hr. this guy built a $25k jet ski. So if someone is satisfied with making $20 an hour then yeah this is a good thing for them if they want to make some money. Though personally, I wouldn't want to be responsible for that big of an investment and all the hassle associated with it.

if you are going to build high dollar skis and turn the over frequently y ou are not going to get paid for your time working on them........thats why its a hobby, not a business...

now...if you are a jetski BUILDER and this is how you make your living then no..it doesnt work........

I tell ya....I have built and sold a couple of skis and have not made a couple THOUSAND..but rather a couple hundred.....

IMO, if I can build, play with and ride a ski for a few months or weeks then recoup 98% of my $$ back......Im TICKLED over it, even if I lost 100 hrs of my own time putting it together.......

each time I build a ski..when its done I sit back and relax....more often than not I tell myself "that was the LAST build.....just gonna ride for awhile" somehow a new hull shows up a few weeks later and then its back to the grind.......
