You know, the stupidity of what is considered a crime and what is pursued in the this country is ludicrous. I just read your post after reading this: http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=6725421 which is about the same. Jail time because he doesn't have grass.

Your legislation at work. I'm glad Texas only meets every other year. Less laws passed and less taxpayer money spent.

Less govt. More personal accountability (I know not to stick my hand in a running lawnmower, no need for a warning label).

I know an SUV has a high center of gravity and children under 12 should not ride in the front seat. No need to permanently affix the stickers, as required by law.

yeah... thank god for that..

I had no numbers, lanyard, fire extinguisher, or registration w/ me and my trusty "high air quality" sticker.... still got all love from Fish and Game....

The cop was like: "you are probably one of those guys who puts their weed in a purple Crown Royal bag"... we chuckled and went on our way...

I have a strong suspicion that if it weren't for the jacket, then it would be for something else.
Again, cops are dicks, face it.

Don't mean to thread jack here but seveal comments were made about wearing helmets . . . .

Do you guys really think you get "Extra credit" from the Cops for wearing helmets ? It always seems to me that when we wear our Moto helmets they watch us extra hard like were getting ready to go haulin' ass all over the place and killin' people or something ! I have been thinking about getting one of the light weight Full face Mountain bike style helmets but I'm worried about drawing attention from the Patrol.

I'm not for more laws, but it almost makes sense that helmets should be mandatory. What other motorsport can you participate in that doesn't legally require a helmet ? JMO

I think the legal ones have lots more padding the front than the back to float you face up if knocked out.
That sucks joe. Let us know the outcome.
300lb'rs float great on their own usually. flubber floats, muscle sinks.

My dad got a ticket when he was in his twenties for wearing a helmet in his car. (he used to drag race it but wasn't when he got the ticket) Cops take a helmate as a sign your doing something dangerous or stupid. It's not an ATV, I doubt many people are educated about stand ups enough to realize why you have one on.

Absolutely without a doubt. It shows that we know what we're doing. We're not the guys buzzing around each other at 50mph wearing orange old school life jackets. We're the guys that are smart enough to wear helmets in order to keep from calling them in for a rescue or emergency.

The prosecutor called me into a room to discuss the offense. He open my file, which had 1 piece of paper in it - the ticket. He read it a few times to himself, looked up at me, and said "What the hell is this? Wrong type of lifejacket? there is a wrong type????" I explained that apparently there is, competiton jackets and USCG approved jackets. Then he shook his head and asked if I would agree to improper sticker placement, a $35.00 ticket, no record. I said sure.

Pretty good outcome, still a pain, and I agree that if you ride where cops are, wear a legal jacket and have a fire extinguisher if required. Sooner or later, on jet-ski's, you will get stopped for no apparant reason. I know few people in my area who haven't. Maybe it's a Michigan thing...

I got jail time b/c i had too much grass. J/K it had to be said. Michigan has some dumb laws. How about in Vermont where i lived a few years back, i was working for a home builder who put on an addition with a nice elevated deck. THey upped his "view" tax, no joke a view tax. It was something like $600 a month, just ridiculous but indeed it was a sweet lookout into the mountains of NH.

Just because it is Coast Guard Approved, does not mean it is Coast Guard Approved for PWC's.

My slippery Matrix is a type 5 Coast Guard Approved, but that does not make it a legal preserver for PWC's.

So my Matrix is no good ?
I just looked to make sure and to my surprise all the info inside the jacket has worn away. I guess it's time for a new one.

... The cop was like: "you are probably one of those guys who puts their weed in a purple Crown Royal bag"... QUOTE]

That is great Nick! One day on the way to the boat launch there was one of those such purple bags right in the middle of the road. My friend and I spotted it at the same time. I was thinking how it was our lucky day because there was hopefully some goodies in there. WRONG! Somebody had tie downs in the bag. Who in the hell stores tie downs in a crown bag? I was so distraut that I gave them to my friend. I needed some new tie downs too! No more crown bags for me. The new job likes to cut my hair every so often...

I got a ticket once too. I was breaking the law, I admit it. My friend and I were riding in a no wake zone. I was on my knees riding in the tray of my stand up. I was going as slow as humanly possible without falling over. Well I was still making a small wake, probably like 4 - 6 inches tall max. Landed me a 130 ticket! To me, on that day, a warning would have sufficed. No point in fighting it because they would have jacked up the fine. So I had to pay 110 in court costs and a 20 dollar ticket. Yeah 110 dollars to the courts for them to steal my money from me. I was laid off that summer and on unemployment too. Fricken pigs! I still won't ride at that lake. They did their job, they got what they wanted.

on the bright side, if you hadn't been flagged for a court appearance you probably would have been looking at a couple hundred fine. (and like most of us paid it rather than going to court.)
