Bringing a familiar FX1 back to life...

This is LBE's (Eddie Bettencourt) old FX1. Eddie has given me a lot of support and really set me up right for this build. He really is a selfless person, and its a great feeling to know someone like him. I am very thankful to own this ski. It has a lot of history and a lot of hours put into it. I got this boat about a month ago, the bottom was scuffed up, white turf was dirty, and the foam was wet, and worst of all, it was set for a 144 pump. I thought, "Damn, I guess I have to upgrade to a superjet pump".

I was building an FX1 with Kawi conversion but I am taking 18 units as well as coaching a collegiate team and I barely had time for myself, little alone building a jet ski. When I got this FX1, I immediately started selling my old FX1-Kawi parts and gaining money for LBE's boat.

I have purchased all of my parts and the pump will be at Bonzia Bob's for conversion within this week.

For the past three weeks, I have gone to Fearlessnuts (Mark Gomez) house every weekend, we work from 9 to (because of last night) 2:30 in the morning, straight! Mark has been really great to me and has gone above and beyond in helping me. He is a great friend and shows humility in its most highest form.

Here are some pics of how the hull was when I first got it.

So the first weekend I was at Mark's house, we removed all the turf from the FX1. I quickly learned that I hated this. Later in the evening CKJetski (Chris Rosner) came over to get his pole shortened. Mark continued to work on his superjet, laying in carbon and such.

The second weekend, we cut out a 8x8" square in the middle of the tray and I removed all the foam below the front of the tray area. Later in the evening, Mark mixed up a batch of foam and poured a good amount in. Watching the foam grow was like watching a horror movie of a monster coming out of the ground!

Unfortunately, we were working so hard that we forgot to take pics except for our little mock Wamilton's jet ski shop

Yesterday, Mark and I accomplished a lot. We spent hours prepping and making perfect templates for the white and black diamond turf sheets. Mark is a pro at turf! If anyone needs a professional job on their ski, pm Fearlessnuts. Well, this was our end result at 2:30 in the morning.

The KR is the initials for my name (Kevin Rickon). User name "krickon" is just an abbreviation for my full name.

This next Saturday, Mark and I are glassing in the pump shoe, turfing the rails and assembling both of our skis. I plan to have the entire ski assembled by the end of this weekend. The pump is the only thing I am waiting on, but once that comes in, I am bolting it in and throwing it in the water.

Cranks are shot, this ski is put on hold until san diego state university pays their dues ($1200) to me. The cost of new cranks is the price of a used B-pipe. Guess I am not going to ride for winter break...

:censored:, I hate when this happens...

Well, it was a busy week for me. Mark Gomez assembled my rebuilt engine. I finished all the glass work. And I bombarded Eddie with phone calls every 30 minutes, "Ok Eddie, last question"....."Ok Eddie, last question, I swear...".."I know I said last question, but I have one more." Well my friend and I probably went 20 hours straight assembling everything together. We took a 3 hour nap and went riding right after. It did run and it didnt sink so I guess those are the two most important things. The carb is out of wack, I can't turn right, and I think my allignment is off. I knew the engine had a lot of power but it felt like it was being held back. I have to find a better way to figure out that plug for my head instead of using a B-pipe screw. I also need one of those rubber clamps that go over the gas tank and I need to put my wiring under the carb manifold and not through it! Oh and a battery box...I also need to address the gap where my bracket is, as well as glass my rails and chinpad. The ski is in running condition but I still have a lot of work to do before I even think of taking it in the ocean to get pounded on by waves. Here is some pics of the glass work and my ghetto superjet intake grate.

Really have to thank Chris (Oxnard111) and my friends Jon and Dan for helping me out in desperate times. Eddie (LBE) for being there when I needed him and taking time out of his day to help me through my problems. Eddie helped me out a lot the past few months and I am extremely grateful for what he has taught and given me. And of course I have to thank Mark (Fearlessnuts) for going the extra distance and seeing that my build went right. Mark and I spent countless hours working together and he has proven to be a selfless and reliable friend. Both Eddie and Mark went a long way for me and I am very grateful for their selfless acts. Thanks guys!

Update: The ski didn't run very well the other day so I took it over to Art over at JetWorks, put it in the tank and got it all dialed in 5 hours later. Its going to pull hard mid-way through the powerband. Tomorrow I am turfing the rails and chinpad. After that, its done and I am going to be playing Call of Duty 24/7.

This was the first ski I back flipped, hopefully it will be yours also.

Looks good!! :bananajump:

Oh you know I will....:splatt:

Just get back here already, this thing is seaworthy and I am taking it to Oceanside this week or next weekend.

Proof that it works, this thing is awesome. It snares with the 144 pump on.

I didn't need the helmet, but it was new so I wanted to see how it was going to fit. I can't wait to go to Oceanside this week!
