Super Jet boyeson reeds how long should they last

Need some answers guys i pulled my carbs off to find my boyeson carbon fiber reeds to be stuck open. Like 1/8" off cage i put them on brand new june last year. And i bet only 8 tanks off fuel of riding. Is this common? Or what may be the problem? :thinking:

they can go bad very quickly if you have water ingestion
same for a big backfire
so I guess the lifespan depends on operating conditions

Sinking it and cranking the motor without draining as much water as possible first can damage reeds.

i drained the motor but iam sure their still was some in their

Also Ed Brazina says they should be changed yearly for max performance as they do wear fast compared to stock

i really didnt notice a big improvment going to carbon then stock i may go back they seemed to last longer

After witnessing multiple friends' skis sucking up oem metal reeds and destroying a top end, I have no problem replacing my carbon reeds once a year.....

You might talk to Art Gomez/BlackJack performance. He makes replacement reed petals for those cages that should last quite a bit longer. I used his petals for stock cages (made of the same material) for almost 400 gallons before replacing them.

I have been running the same carbontech's since 2003 or so, barely any wear the last time I had them off (last fall).

The B2 fiberglass reeds last forever it seems...12 years so far in B2 and running them in my SJ.

between the 8-12 yamahas Ive owned over the past 10 years, and alllll my buddys skis that we maintain here, and all the BS we fix for people... we have NEVER had a reed fail

I don't doubt you one second. I have witnessed two yamahas suck up reeds. Not my skis, no idea on the history of em. I just know I don't want it happening to me.

Do you need to tune or rejet carbs after installing them in a mostly stock 750 or 800?
