Boat wake backy attempt

Well, I'm getting the nose in, but I see that I have to get my legs straight and my back arched to get the rotation cranked around the last bit. Still, I'm pretty pleased with progress since I only tried this for the first time last weekend.

I tried it coming from the front too and it seemed like I did better this way. But, I think I was hitting the wake too fast when I came in from the front. Next time I think I need to come from the front, come in slower, and make sure I kick those legs out to crank the nose round.

Nice try!

Your form is pretty good, looks like you need to speed up the rotation a bit or get more height.

Boats make a wake whose size is directly related to the length and width of the boat. So boat wakes are usually pretty small and you have to experiment with different angles in order to get your whole ski down into the pocket in front of the wave.

I usually get the best pop by approaching the wave at a bit of an angle, slipping into the trough in front of the wave and then straightening up a bit on the way up the wave.

I'm still getting the timing down too - about half of my attempts are aborted because I don't drop the nose into the hole at the right time. Any tips on increasing rotation speed? (That don't involve buying a new hull...!) I'm using trim.

Hanging your ass out the rear does not constitute "Using Trim"

Jeff Foxworthy says you are WRONG! :nana:

My CATS setup is working well with some pretty decent throw. Just got to get my arse in once the rotation has started - from the videos I'd say there's another 20 degrees of rotation to be had if my legs were straight and my arms were bent once I get over the top. If I can do that then I'd be fairly close to vertical going in, and that's not too far from riding away. Famous last words....

Way to go Adrian ! My back flip gurus (Josh, Chris and Lucas) said to push out with your legs, throw head back and pull in with your arms at the apex.

That's what I figured. I didn't see the video till I got home and I could instantly see what to do - now I want to get back on the water so bad!!

That motor sure helps though....

Early days - that was about my 5th try. The good thing is that I can see exactly what I need to do to get it round further. I really wasn't expecting to nail it first time out!

id say go slower approaching, get lower earlier, and hit the wake straight on. wake looks a bit mushy at that speed too.
braap!

x2 everything he said, except hitting the wave straight on isn't always possible on boat wakes

You can also try weighting one side of the boat over, this makes the wave on that side bigger. This wave will usually be good for backy attempts. This boat is weighted heavy on one side: http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/77338-Flatwater-Fun

The only advice I can offer, is to get the boat operator and peeps in the boat to play with cleaning up the wake. I think that would help A LOT. Other than that I know squat... To me it looked like the boat needed to go faster to clean the wake. Or as jetmaniac said, load the people to whatever side you want to jump from, and see if that cleans up the wake. And play with the speed of the boat.
