and hellium filled hulls

It will take some real progressive thinking... We are so limited as of now... We need different types of thrusters and gyros w/ hydrogen power and super light weight composites... It will cost as much as an F1 car...

while kids on BMX bikes do it w/ 500$ bikes...

two perfect examples why we will never be at the level of BMX..

Both of those videos are so much more than we can even dream of doing on present day skis... we need a serious overhaul in equipment to get even in the same playing field... A 300lb ski will never flip and spin like that....

Never say never brother. We just need to work on some things. We came a long way in just a decade.

while we are a little behind in technology,It is mostly young talent in freeride that is holding the sport back,We just dont have the same level of crazy young guys willing to try almost anything.Using motox rather than bmx is a better comparison. They are using heavy bikes that are the same as they were 5 yrs ago, when no one thought a backy would ever be landed, now guys like pastrana are doing double back flips. Its much more the fact he is young ,crazy and has huge ballz that he is landing tricks like that, than his bike is something special .

thing is though motox attracts 1000s of world class riders, you would need alot to choose from to find a guy like pastrana or metz,If we had a few pastanas or metzgers in freeride, they would be already well past the double rolls and backies, with our current skis.I cant even imagine where they would be now really. I kinda think when it comes to freestyle its got alot to do with the ski................freeride= almost all ballz and talent.

I agree somewhat, but it's not the riders, it's the constraits of the machine and the cost involved

bmx bike - 500$
mx bike - $3k
freeride ski $10k

I watched this guy ride in Orlando at the Dew Tour. In his first run he pulled a triple tail spin and then in his second run he tried a double back flip and came up short. He busted out 2 front teeth. I tivo'ed it and watched it when I got home and you could see his teeth sliding accross the floor:bigeyes:

keep in mind whether it is bmx or moto x, these guys have the same ramp everytime they try a trick, they can do it over and over again and change their style, with a wave every time you have to adjust to the wave and conditions, even setup to the wave can be a challenge. I can ride a ski pretty good but theres times in the surf I cant go full out and act like its a walk in the park, vs bmx they are on flat ground they could ride no handed on, if that makes any sense. I think the sport is being pushed right now in a good way, not many ppl were doing flatwater backies 2 years ago and now they are way more common, same with Mirra and those guys with double backies or backlfip whips or 360's/

I disagree on the costs.

You think the world class MXer's are on 3K bikes? No way. Maybe the local kid on the track is riding a 3K bike but thats the same as the average guy riding a roundnose or squarenose. All motorsports cost big $$ to be in the big leagues.

I agree with MasterBlaster. There's just more kids willing to do crazy stunts to make it to the top of the dirtbike world.

but even the best mx riders have trouble staying on a stand up.
the Do get it, but its not as easy as they think at first.

im in a position where i show (expose)many young kids videos like, rampt, AMCF 1 and 2, im even gonna show the addiction soon.

they still love the tricks and they have never been on a jet ski.
the main thing they tell me is the cost.
Not only a $$$$ in a stand up, but a vehicle to get it there.
thats why we cant bash all the riders thet we have. 550 riders,
Kawi riders ect.....

yea bud hes a little off with the #s there. Lets out rule the factory riders like pastrana, those bikes are well over 25k. But look at your average rider with a well modded 250 or 4 stroke 450,most have close to 6 to 10 k in there setup

the bigger issue is motox is a well promoted sport that has tons more riders trying out, motox freestyle creates a very big following. The sport has only been around for 5 yrs or so,it wasnt long ago mcgrath was the man pullin nac-nacs. now its double backies?? We are pretty much 1%ers right now in surf freeride, but maybe years from now when we have 100s of young guys like Lee that have 15 yrs practice like pastrana does they will be pullin the sick tricks left and right, lol

nicks not talking about pro quality equipment either......He's talking rec rider....

I think his #'s are right on.....

Pro would be like:
bmx: 1-2k and up
mx: 15k and up
freestyle ski 15k and up

I wouldnt doubt for a minute that pro mx have just as much if not more $$ into bikes than standups...there's just more people around doing it..

yea Scott, thats really the point, with alot more guys doing it ,your more likly to find crazy talented young bucks ready to try anything.

I had 2 motox bikes mildly modded, I had about 5k in each, thats doing it cheap.I have about the same amount in my RN

Yep I agree. Just the bmx frame alone is about $325-$375. A good BMX bike like Cranmar has is probally a little bit over 1 grand. In the freestyle bmx world they have some of the same weight battles as we do in freestyle jetski. A comparison would be like if your ride surf or on bmx "street" riding you usually have a lot heavyer bike, or ski, to put up with the abuse. But if your ride flatwater or park on the bmx you have guys with titanium bolts and axles that do anything to save a pound. In my opinion it is unfair to compare Scotty Cranmar to really any other bmx rider. His uncle owns one of the biggest skateparks on the east coast and he basically grew up in a foam pit. I ride freestyle bmx, and to the average rider half of thoese tricks he does are unobtainable without serious risk and a foam pit. Although his tricks are "big air" and the crowd loves it, in my opinion his riding isn't cool to watch at all knowing he just does it in a foam pit. Just look at his part in any other bmx vid and you will see him doing all the same frontflip bs and cross legged riding he always does. I guess you have to ride bmx and watch other real bmx riders to understand why scotty cranmar isn't really hot sh$t to most bmx riders. When you see other riders like Van Homan of Chris Doyle who are good at riding park, trails, and street it gives you a real understanding of the real talent. Where as Scotty Canmar will only be found in skateparks and not at the trails or on the street grinding handrails.
