I'm sure there's a local crew of riders near you! Heck, the O-side crew is only an hour or so away.
If you know some riders well enough to try thier boats, that would be the way to go.
There's alot more power out there since the 550 days!

Get a light weight SXR hull with a Yamaha motor.

I would say just get a SXR but then you and the ski would be almost 700lbs!!!! WOW!!!!

If you want to have fun and not waste time spend the money on a aftermarket lightweight SXR hull.....but try to get a Yamaha motor/pump/electrics.

Anything else and you might as well not get back in IMO. And I really mean that. I could never go back to heavy non powerful ski.

Just my opinion...bash on pepes.

True, even though I'm a Super Jet guy, the tray and stability would most likely be better....except for the weight.
What kind of riding are you aspiring to do? Slashing waves? Ariels?

riding waves, jumping, no flips. i'm not a fat guy, just big.just want to get back into it. Anybody know of a Toby B. out of Ventura. Plus budget is limited no carbon stuff.

Post #1 says kawi "750" or yami. I would say that w/o serious modification, the 750 won't do.
I'm 200 lbs. and just recently got my yami 701 modded to the point that I'm ready to try some inverts.
Just something to think about.

SXR and an adjustable handlepole. With your reach and weight you will want a sturdy steering system and pole that you can taylor to your size.

X2 You can pick up a used SXR for $3500, and figure on spending up to an extra $1000 on improvements, depending on what you buy and need for your riding style.

Red you really only have two (practical) choices, either a Super Jet or an SXR. For West coast surf riding I normally I would say a Super Jet, but given your size I’m thinking the SXR might be a better fit. Although the SXR likes to ride nose low because it was designed as a flat water race boat it would take far less mods to make it work for you in the surf than a Super Jet. Handling wise all you’d really need to do is run a “D” cut ride plate and possibly run some Tubbie sponsons to widen the front footprint and further lift the nose. You will have to do the basic surf mods also (Footholds, hood strap and pole limiter, may be an aftermarket pole) but they are required no matter what type of ski you ride. You really don’t need to reinforce SXR’s and we get big enough surf here on the West Coast that weight is not an issue like it is to East Coast or flat water riders.

It does not have to be carbon! Just 100lbs lighter than a stock SXR....and preferably a Yamaha motor, pump, and electrics. It can be done for about the same price as a new SXR.

Don't screw around IMO.

But if you have to get something get a SXR and then wait for team scream to come out with some sick 1000 cylinders for it.
