Beware the PayPal increases :O

In case you have not heard it yet fellers, PayPal just dropped a price hike bomb on us. I think I am going to look into other payment options but so far from personal experience, Canadians buying parts in USD, if the seller requires that the buyer consumes the PayPal fees, will now be paying 4.92%, up from the as recently as last week 3.2%. There are also more clauses hidden within their new policy that will sting the sellers from what I have been reading. Have a look at this, it might be worth your while if you plan to sell anything or have items up for sale.

If buyer and seller are both on facebook you can use their integrated payment service in the messenger app. It is extremely easy to use, safe and free. You can request funds and send funds instantly. Much easier and cheaper than paypal, just fairly unknown so far.
any sort of protection? I just paid for a used ride plate and pay pal nailed me an extra $10!

I've been having a lot of issues this past year. As a seller, you have zero protection. Like eBay, it's turning into a joke. This tops the cake. No more PayPal for me.

What do you prefer to use, then? Does the facebook thing have any sort of protection?

Have you used this feature yet?

I use it quite a bit actually, but it is not meant for businesses, and has none of the protections in place like a normal business paypal transaction.

While it technically does not have buyer/seller protection, there is no way to chargeback with the system. So someone can't claim they never received your part and take the money back. So in theory facebook is much safer for the seller of parts than the buyer as there is no way to dispute. I personally have not had any issues though.

Can I cancel money after I send it in a message?

No, you can't cancel money after you send it in a message.
If you accidentally send money to someone in a message, you can:
  • Ask them to send the money back.
  • Ask them to decline the money if they haven't added a debit card to their account yet. If the payment isn't accepted after 7 days, it'll be automatically canceled.
  • Require a password/PIN each time you send money so you can review your transaction before sending.
Note: If your money is sent back to you or is declined, your bank may take up to 3-5 business days to make it available to you.

I honestly don't know what I'm going to use. I've always used PayPal. Their lack of protection for its seller and shady buyers on the other end has just gotten out of hand. I really don't know what to switch to.

I just typed into google "paypal payment alternatives" and it turned up quite a few results. I have also used once before an e-transfer where it goes directly from one bank account to the other but I think it comes with a small fee...2% I think it was, at least with my bank. But it worked, one of my ski buddies accepts e-transfers of that nature a lot through his business.

Zelle based payments very well might be the PayPal killer for P2P once it gains traction. Banks are quickly adding it to their phone apps, it's a free service on both ends and should be as safe as wire transfers. Only downside is it's US only, not international.

Like @Quinc and @surfjunkie, I'm not on Facebook and have no intentions of signing up just for payments.

Lmao. Only on xh20 do vendors complain about PayPal fees instead of making their own sites. And private people want all the protection they can from scammers. But don't wanna pay for it. PayPal is the greatest way to buy online. Most protection by far. What's that they say? You get what you pay for??

I think its more about the principle of them raising prices. No one was complaining when the figures were holding steady from them. It's pretty simple economics that with a price raise, people are less willing to buy. In turn we will look for a substitute service. Although I don't believe there is a better alternative, like you said.
