What will the 850 kit cost you compared to running a pipe??

I have never once had an issue running a B Pipe. I have run one for over 10 years. The 750 wet pipes were more maintenance with the wrap around design. The SXR Wet Pipe is basically the same as the superjet pipe. There is nothing to go wrong with them. I have had the OEM manifold crack on the SXR.

I have been running a wetpipe, head, light weight flywheel, and other goodies on my SXR for over 3 years now. I clock over 100 hours a year on my ski. Still running strong and has never broke down on me. The only little problems that I had were due to my installation practices. The group K kit is nice...no doubt about that. However the cost to power ratio is much bigger than getting a pipe.

For mods outside a pipe:
spring tensioner or aftermarket pole. I just absolutely love the XMetal pole and steering I installed recently.
Quick turn plate
Jumper the air temp sensor
bore nozzle
intake grate
Keep the stock ride plate
footholds
limiter rope
bilge pumps
aftermarket bars and grips
remove choke plates and rejet
dry out the stock pipe - comes with the group K mod

Maybe someone around the Indiana/Michigan area would help me with a pipe? I do like the description of the stable powerband with the GroupK kit.

also the pipe is what 600 bucks? so double it and you can have the group K kit. not that bad of a deal? know anyone who has the kit installed?

I have an 850 in my sxi but it was custom made b4 group k offered their kit. I can't see why you would go that route and not run a pipe??? Just thinking of all that power going to waste makes me sick! lol I have an old school PJS wrap-around pipe on mine and have been running this same pipe since the mid to late 90's and have never had any issues with it other than replacing the coupler every few years to keep it fresh.

Wow...some horrible posts in here.

1. The wetpipe for the SXR is completely reliable and makes a ton of power. You will never touch it. (if you follow the directions)
2. The 850 kit doesn't compare. (I've ridden it, it makes about 3/4 the power of just a pipe)
3. For the money, milling the head and an aluminum flywheel make the 2nd and 3rd best mods for an sxr for low end power.
4. Bore the nozzle (cheap, adds a little more)

5. I have ridden sxr's with impellers and didn't notice much difference from the stock Solas swirl.
6. Dry pipes are NOT reliable on SXRs. I've seen 3 of them crack wave jumping and they suck to work on.

dude i'm in the exact same situation right now. the guy from group k said that the pipe is harder on the crankshaft due to higher rpms. has anyone found this to be true? I mean ideally, would you do a group k kit (sleeper or big bore) AND a wet pipe? Also the presumed decreased fuel consumption of a group k kit seems good. honestly i'm kind of leaning toward the group k kit as well, even though you all say so much good stuff about the pipe.

once again, the only reason for decreased fuel consumption is that it makes less power.

it still makes no sense to me to do an 850 kit with a stock pipe. i have a full mod 850 with lightened pistons, race port (cases and cylinder), msd, mrd fi, and im running @ 210 psi domes. its my everyday ski and i run the crap out of it from the time i hit the water till the sun goes down. i think you should have no worries as far as the crank goes running a pipe with the 850 kit...

I got the 850 kit. I added the pipe later because it felt lacking.

The 850 is built for reliability.

Well you asked a question and it has been answered. mark this post or print it out and hand it in the garage. my prediction, you will get the group K kit and think you have something until you ride a bone stock sxr with a wetpipe and then you will feel stupid. I had a drypipe with the ski when I purchased it and it was a pain. I have the wetpipe now for a few seasons and its set it and forget it. you seem deadset against it and you would be wrong. the pipe you had is a major pain, I would say worse than the drypipe for sxr. Dont believe all the hype, The only way a motor is gonna make more power then what you have now is more compression and or more capacity. compression is easy, mill the head, the other is a bit more work and money. No single bolt on will give you more seat of the pants increase in power than a pipe. get over your fear and listen to the answers that everyone is giving you. You will do the install, tune it and never touch it again.
