Still waiting on the pipe before I can foam around it and glass the tray. Hopefully I can get it Sunday and get a start on things. That hood on yours looks pretty sweet! I am sure doing the front with the foam will be worth it when you are done. Are you using the Great Stuff in a can still?

Good deal man! I hope you got to some glass work. Boy this is a pain in the rear man. Between the Holiday's, a full time plus work schedule and a million home improvement projects and I am starting to lose my patience.

I woke up Sunday morning at 3am and couldn't go back to sleep so I finally got up at 4:15am and decided to put in a few hours before the wife and I hit church. I spent that entire 3.5 hours shaping the foam on the nose after already spending a few hours putting it together and gluing it in place. Took me forever to get it to look how I wanted it and it still wasn't exactly what I expected but I did end up liking it. I already had a buddy coming over in the afternoon to help on the project so I wanted to have the nose ready for glass work. He and I spent another 4 hours together sanding the tray area as well as laying the first layer of glass on the nose.

No, I used the foam I put in the bottom of the tray (polystyrene) as I needed it rigid so I could shape it to make the form for the glass . I only used the spray foam for the gunwhales as I couldn't justify blowing the $$$ on the pour foam for such a small amount needed and I had the canned crap. I really didn't want to use much of that stuff as I know it isn't the best with water.

Pic #1 foam shaped.
Pic #2 first layer of glass on the foam. The Barney coloring is duct tape I had laying around that I used over the foam to make for a cleaner finish.

Well Glad to hear it. So I laid the bottom 1st layer of nose glass last night and pulled the foam out this morning. What a pain it was to get the foam out but I am stoked at how it came out. Its rough right now but at least the general shape is there. full hull.jpg

Nice you are making some great progress! I just got my exhaust pipe in last night and am going to start redoing the foam today. Hopefully I can start laying glass by tomorrow.

sweet man! The tray glass isn't that bad...just make sure you take all the paint off the areas of the gunwhales you are overlapping onto the original hull. Also...iI am sure you are in the cold right now...it helps to put a Halogen lamp pointing on the glass to help it dry faster as it requires hotter temps to fully set.

With freinds stopping by and the baby I still haven't had a chance to put the foam in. I did get some minor stuff done though.

Removed the pump shoe. Going to be putting a blowsion aluminum one on.

Looking good...and the pump shoe came out easy. That can be a real pain sometimes. I did mine this season and I got lucky too. I did another layer of glass on the nose yesterday and ground down all of the ridges inside for internal reinforcement (that job SUCKED). I wish I would have been smart enough to do that prior to foaming the nose. Reaching inside and bent over while grinding down tons of glass and vacuuming it out. Just a nasty job.

I am still a long way from done but I can see it taking shape slowly. My buddy has been helping me a few hours here or there so I have been leaning on him for advice as he used to work in a bodyshop.

My progress may be slowing down here too as my 2nd Grandfather in the last 6 months just went into the hospital. He seems ok...but this will mean a move to assisted care and a Grandmother who will now need someone to take care of her. Not a good situation at all ...but hopefully I can keep up the pace as things are moving pretty quickly now and I want it done pre baby.

That is awesome you have some help! My friends don't jetski and think that I am nuts for doing the project. I am sorry to hear about your Grandfather. Old people are tough as hell though so I am sure he will pull out of it. :)

Lamar, when you glassed the tray did you glass the bottom first then the sides or did you do it all together?
I did the bottom of the tray first than did the side walls.

I am getting closer but still a ways out and one of my buddy's just added another piece to the project. Wider bond flange for more stability at low speeds.

I just added wider rails/bond flange to my SN and I love it! I made add on ones that bolt on and I haven't gotten it all dialed in yet but a great mod! A few guys I ride with all have done it and convinced me it was worth it.

Post some pictures! Also how much wider did you make them?

I am still on and off on the bond rails. I might make them like you said and bolt them on. Because I don't feel like spending anymore time on the initial set up.

Here is a pic of my extended rails. My template is the 2x4 on the stool. Cut an angle on one end then radiused the corner. Wrapped it in foil then laid a layer of Kevlar, 4 layers of glass and another layer of Kevlar. Then cut/trimmed the glass back to the edge of the 2x4 so the rail is 48" long, 3.5 wide, 1.5 tall. Didn't remove the stock plastic rail guards because they help it sit level. I didn't bother making the template with the ridge to fit the stock bare rails. This one was an experiment and I probably will make A better one later. You will notice they are straight, again didn't bother making a curved template. Problem is they can't go forward any further then they are. They are bolted on with 6 6 mm bolts, fender washers on top (under the turf) and large washers underneath with nylock nuts. Before I bolted them down I laid a thick bead of 3m 5200 down the rail and a big gob at the leading edge where the taper meets the side of the rail.
