Barrell roll injuries.

My thoughts for what they are worth:

I use the footholds for really small rolls, doubles, any kind of one footed variation, and most of the time when I roll to the right (I just don't go that way very well so it is easier in the holds for me).
I get more leverage and can roll faster with my feet in the holds, but I don't like landing hard with both feet in the holds it is just an awkward position to be in and if you come up a little short it is very hard on the inside knee and ankle especially if it is a big roll.

Any time I am rolling on anything bigger than like a 1 foot wave, I would rather have a foot forward in the strap. I'm just much more comfortable riding and landing like that. But you don't have the leverage you have when both feet are in the back, so it winds up being much harder to get a small roll around.

As far as injury goes:
I think knee and ankle injuries are just something that comes along with what we do. And I have had my share of nagging injuries. The best thing I have found to help prevent and recover from injuries has been to train. When I had lots of knee and ankle problems a couple of years ago, I starting focusing in the gym on legs and split them up in to two days a week. The past few months I hurt much less than I used to when I ride, and that is because I changed the way I train again. Typically 5+ days a week of running followed by about a 30min stretch, core work, and then training what ever muscle group we are on that day.

Hope that helps a little...

Oh and common injury I have seen from under rotation is busted ear drum...so I would say wear a good helmet.

yeaaa i get it in the face alot of the time too trying barrrel rolls...then my neck begins to hurt not long after

just gotta get over it i guess and go for more

My neck is absolutely killing me today from last weekend... The part that worries me is that I actually broke my neck racing motocross about 8 years ago, and I had a couple vertrbates that slipped out of line permanently. Now I'm wondering if I should go in for an x-ray...

In my short time in this sport I've seen a lot of people of all ages having bad ankle, hip and knee problems after only a few years of jetskiing. I've watched Stuntbikemike ride live a good bit and he has very good form. Very impressive to watch.

My ankles hurt pretty after riding..but that's because I've broken/spranged each of them several times over. On a good note my chest/shoulders don't hurt from open heart surgery a few years ago.

The first picture is my chest 12 days after surgery. The second picture is my x-ray held up to a light. You can see the tie wraps holding my breast bone together while it healed. I'm just thrilled to still be alive and able to ride with some really good riders on occasion.
