Surfriding back/spine pretection in the surf.

I am wondering what you fellow surf riders are wearing for back and spine protection. I know after some surf rides my back gets taxed, but in terms of safety Anything good being made that helps with spine compression or impacts. ?
I have seen the jettribe one, and wondering if that is a race specific protector to help with being hit from behind OR if it helps with spine comression on big jumps.
Let me know what you guys are using.
Thanks
P.

Nothing here. I leave my balls in the truck specifically so I don't go big enough to cause spinal injuries.

;) LOL
I know, but sometimes as anyone of us who rides surf...hitting a wave faster than you planned/realized can make you go BIG. Anyone else chime in?

PS....OCD, I installed your tidy wiring kit in my E-box. Props to you on that, it is perfect!!

Am I the only one whos back ONLY feels good when I beat it to death in waves?? It hurts the most when I don't ride enough!

I never have back problems in the surf but the ol' nuts tend to get hurt often especially if I try jumping the waves in the holds. Sometimes I get sharp + sudden pain that lasts a few minutes in the middle of my back, did it once doing a stab and once trying to turn sub while on the side of the ski (seemed like a smart idea). I really don't know if there's something you can wear to prevent injury. I would like to think a well fitting life vest would do a small part in keeping your back aligned. Other than that, it may be worth looking into some types of excercises to keep the plates in your back aligned.

I have worn a Valeo belt for years.Seems like it keeps the spine in alignment, instead of all the vertebra going everywhere when you come off a jump.l also spend a number of hours in the gym every week working on my core and other muscle groups. So it's not like I'm just relying on the belt.
Not great scientific info, but it works for me.

Not really needed in the surf. Spine protectors are more for closed course racing where your in close contact with other riders where there are risks of being clipped or T boned. Best prevention in surf is to be aware of fellow riders and never get to close, and NEVER let go of the ski- If you're not separated, the ski can't come back and land on you.

Thanks guys. I hear you on the workout specifically CORE. I lift 3 days a week, but after 12 years of wrestling of course my back will never be the same. I am thinking I am going to go with 1 inch padding under my turf to help.

Good move. Your knees and hips will thank you as well. Take it from an old guy with a bad back and a lot of 'creaks'.
