AWA Turns Back Two Stroke Ban in Montana!
1-23-07
In a solid victory for two-stroke PWC and outboard owners, AWA, working with our Supporting Dealers and Members was successful in the tabling of a heinous statewide two-stroke ban in Helena yesterday. “SB-24 was the typical junk science of the no-access extremists,” said Chris Manthos, Executive Director of the American Watercraft Association. “When somebody tries to pass off misrepresentations and exaggerations as the truth, they’re no longer in the debate; they’re fair game for a dose of honesty. The truth is what won the day in Montana.” Manthos added.
SB-24 would have made Montana the first state in the Union to impose an across the board conventional two-stroke ban on public waters. Just because you may never ride in Montana, doesn’t matter: Just because you may own a four-stroke doesn’t matter: What matters is the precedent this anti-citizen bill would have set. First, it’s the two-strokes, then its all motorized boats.
The no-access crowd is emboldened by their recent gains in Congress and in many state legislatures. AWA has been warning the PWC Nation that a new wave of regulations, bans, restrictions, and prohibitions were coming at that the Good People: we’re just seeing the beginning. Now is the time to be aware of what your elected officials are up to. You have the power to demand they stand for the mainstream instead of the extreme. When we stand together, we win.
