I tried my first backfilp Sunday as well. I am glad the first one is over. I was the the most scared of heading at a wave that looked like it was about to suck me back over and eat me. I got perfectly upsidedown and pancaked it. It really didn't hurt. I held on to it TIGHT and let it push me in. The motor didn't even stall. I just swam back up and got back on it. Then checked to see if I was still alive or dreaming. It really wasn't that bad but I have had a bad experience backflipping a snowboard so it is a little erie doing it again. I am feeling like the next try will be a lot easier to concentrate on my form rather than just not crapping my pants.

lol.... yeah it's more fun w/o a load in your shorts
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
congrats Pete!!!!

dont listen to all these weenies, backflips are the easiest trick in the book. you dont need horsepower all you need to do is hit the wave at the right time and look back. its all commitment.

plus you cant get hurt its only water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i got a couple trys under my belt now too.i really feel like the next try will be the one:fingersx: as for br's i think i have many side flops to go before i get it

I heard about a guy in brazil who had never even rode a stand-up before. He went out on the stand-up on his knees in the surf (his first time on a stand-up) saw a curling wave. Stood up, stuck feet in footholds and pulled off a perfect flip. I almost think it was Junior that did it, Not sure on that though.

Butti, I think we should start a pact that by the next Daytona Freeride in the Fall that we all get backflips going. Anyone else want to join the wannabe backflip pact? IDOK? WAB? It might be a good idea to make sure our health insurance is paid up just incase.

Totally!!! Think about it. Its just a matter of hitting the gas and leaning back. Compared to a BR or even a nose stab, it is much easier. The body motions of a BR or nose stab are more difficult to get your head around.

The only difficult thing about a backflip is learning how to do one IN CONTROL. Knowing your gonna land it before your pump leaves the water. Anybody can huck it. Go for it!!!

geee, this sounds soo easy, but I ve been tryin them now since 5 weeks. I probably had 40 attempts and my kenney keepers already show:frown: Off boat wakes though.

Maybe somebody can help me with them at lanier.... I would really appreciate some help!! But you are all right!!! a messed up barrel roll hurts much more than a bf. as long as you stick to the ski it wont hurt at all when you land upside down.

I tried one last year at Lanier. I think I made it about 3/4 the way around. That's the goal this year. After all the practice I had with my two trips to Daytona I think theres a good chance I'll make a few.
See ya there.

we have been talking about a BR pool...everyone buys in for 10, 20 whatever.....whoever pulls the first takes the pot, must be witnessed by 2 people!

wab is almost there.......and at least I can land upside down now  (but I did just add an aflac policy to my reg health insurance :) )

Heres is my advice. COMITTMENT IS THE KEY. If you dont commit completely you will not pull it. I talked about doing a backflip for six months everytime LBE and i went to oceanside. Every weekend id look for the perfect wave ride up to it to go BF and then puss out. Then some snaggle tooth, crackhead local on a 650 kaw told me it was easy. I didnt believe him. Saw him do it and felt ashamed that this guy who couldnt even turn his ski without falling could pull multiple BF's. LBE was thinking the same thing. Then i decided to do it and rode up a face kept the gas steady, the lip of the wave hit my ski at perfect timing (this is the most critical factor) and i looked back and kept looking back until i saw the water again. then i saw mylanding. If you chicken out and stop looking back your body will not follow and pretty much slow or stop rotation, hindering your skis rotation. Watch any olympic diver, their head is allways leading any rotation/s. Same applies for a BR.
You must lead all rotation with your head and wave timing is key also
