So long and thanks for all the fish

I like about 6 feet so I can put my feet on the ski behind me so when I let off the gas it doesn't crush me.

me and swooperjet found out that a shorter one works better also. the jet pump wash goes under the towed standup helping keep the nose up.

WAYYY too long....you'll just end up digging the nose and it will go rigth and left all over the place

We have found that getting as close as possible is best for standups.

:beerchug:

the shorter the better.about as long as a limiting rope is good

limiting rope length is the perfect length...about 3 feet, or enough to wrap it around your waist ONCE

You want the ski's to travel as one....no separation of the boats between waves..

keep in mind, with a short rope you just have to be ready when you let off the gas to extend out one leg to stop the boat from smashing into your back

I had to do a rescue with an 8" tow rope a couple of weeks ago (a friend dropped my shorty during another tow-in into the ocean)..

for a split second when I started the tow I thoiught I sucked up the rope into the impellar..talk about what would have been a BAD situation

Seems the general concencus is to go with a short rope but I totally disagree. I use a 30' rope (YES THIRTY FEET) because you can tow at high speed or up on plain. With a long rope the ski being towed is completely out of the wake and jet wash of the towing ski, and believe me we've had to tow each other a lot here in Oceanside.

I guess when you're able to stand near shore, you can also start pulling.

i always put a person in the tray of the towed ski (i've never towed anything really far) to help keep the nose up. is that what everybody else does? i've never towed with that short of a rope so i always had to do the person in the tray to keep up.

I think alot depends on water type and tow vessel.

I towed the FX1 in last weekend with our fishing boat, about 20 feet of rope, and a guy in the tray, we were able to get it up on plane.

on a LAKE.

it will all work........did you read that part of my post where I thought I sucked it up in the intake at one point?

my heart sank and the seas were fairly knarly

reason I was using a long rope was I had loaned my shorty to a buddy 20 minutes before and he dropped it in the water :spank:

oh definatly...towing with a boat is worlds different than with another standup..

in the ocean, the key to a good tow is a quick hookup and a good takeoff.....if you squid the takeoff, odds are your gonna get worked
