Anyone using hoodstraps?

I had mine locking REALLY tight for a while, but like I said it eventually just busted the area out around the latch.
You really think that carbon hull needs extra support..? Also are you running the stock braces, or just nothing right now? I would think you'd be fine with even one stock brace. Now that I think about it I can't remember if you have it setup with those, or nothing. If you have nothing then yeah I could see why you would want to wait!!
I still need one of those hoods like yours..

I have NO supports at all on the ski. To reinstall a stock ones would be a PIA because the lower mounting points on the stock hull are not on mine. There is a ton of CF on it and thats been holding up great. Its pretty damn solid, but if you hit anything hard enough....it will break. Especially with the leverage you get with the handbars being fixed. I plan (before wave daze) to have the jetski haven setup installed.... if all goes right. And that would be plenty of support for the steering tower. Right now I am just so stoked to run it on flat water.... being I live on a river and ride it everyday. I cant bring myself to take it off the dock, although I plan to tomorrow for the NJ SurfRide v2.0. I have just been stoked out on jumping boat wakes, playing with the sweet trim, and ripping around. Been taking it easy on the ski (and my limbs). Once summer starts to wind down, I will put some time into making it completely surf proof for the 10+ day mecca that is Daytona.... Where I plan to thoughly beat the living ******** out of it.

ya they work pretty good because my stock latches stay open all the time.

the stock ones wont be on my other hull at all that i am going to start on in a few months.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, come up with a great strap setup and have no latches.

What if you used 4 kawi latches instead of just 2. I have been toying with the idea of using for on my build. Seems like it would help, am I crazy??

It's been done on others. I don't know for sure that it would fix my problem, as my hood is compressing down and letting the latches go. Some guys have done it because they have shaved the hump out of the body, and had no place to attach a hinge in the front so the latches hold it down all the way around.
I'm thinking on my next hull, I'm going to skip the latches completely and go with a ratchet strap setup.

Good point. I didnt think about that. I really need to put some on my SXR too. I had my hood flex and let the latches go a few weeks ago. Scared the $hit out of me. Lucky my ski didn't---> :Flush:

I have the 4 latches for the exact reason above but must say I have had zero issues with more than 1 latch letting go. I've beat it pretty hard in the surf too with a few upside down landings from some rolls gone bad. The biggest advantage may be there is no longer a pivot point in the front, which MIGHT allow uneven sealing when the hood is compressed????

Hey X2SKIER,

Do you have any pics of your setup? I have enough parts to do a 4 latch setup. I am about to cut my hood down and it would be a perfect time to do this as well. Thanks

Yeah I think the four latch setup will work pretty well. I'm all about redundancy. Surely you won't blow BOTH latches off a side. Then again, if it could be busted I'll be the one to do it. I think I almost deserve a metal for hood destruction/sinking this year. I want a carbon fiber hood. :17:

After reading this thread i went out into the garage and raided the old waverunner for it's latch's they are stainless and i think i could make the pocket a little deeper with the die grinder so it's not as flat i will post up some pic's as soon as i get a chance.
