Anyone use auto bilge switches?

i just put in a west marine Bilge Pro Auto 800. I have hooked it up yet... I 4200 it between the gas tank and the fly wheel. I was waiting for my bling bling 45 degree to get in tomorrow to finish the install. I will let you know how it goes.. I tried real quick to figure out the electronic thing, but i coudlnt get the pump to shut up yet.. that freakin pump was expensive.... 80 bucks

If it is the one I saw at West Marine and Boaters World it only checks every 2.5 minutes. My boat would be sunk if I had to depend on that cycle. I have one that I bought 10 years ago that has a external module that checks every 30 seconds and just uses a standard Rule 500 pump. It still works and is good for rec riding but if I am pulling stabs or surf riding I just switch my dual pump setup to constant on. Do yourself a favor and just buy a good waterproof switch and a standard pump or two and use the old manual method. Jet Ski Solutions sells a dash mount military grade switch with a shortend bat that will last for years.

This is better.

Rulemate 750. Built-in float switch. Ski never sinks and no need for a handlebar switch that will fry in a year or two.

I just have 2 Attwood 500GPH pumps ($10 at any WallyWorld) and a waterproof fuse holder for each one.

Pop the fuse in before the ride, take the fuse out when the ski is back on the trailer.
No expensive switches to fail.

be carefull with that setup.i was using the kind that takes a blade fuse.worked fine for a while then one day i go out to the garage and there was a funny smell.turns out when i wd-40'ed my motor down some got into the fuse holder and ignited (after i went to bed) it melted some wires next to a fuel line and splattered burning rubber in a 5 foot radius.bad juju!could have burned my new garage and all my ********!

the problem with float switches is they dont work well when your riding.they just bounce up and down on off on off on off and so on

The one thing about the automatic electronic ones that check every so often, if you leave your ski sit or forget to turn it off, it will drain your battery pretty quick.

I forget stuff all the time, and that's the last thing I need to think about. Though, I often ride for hours, go up to the cabin, have lunch and come down a couple hours later. A dead battery is never fun.

Thats just me. YMMV.

I run 2 attwood 500's and the attwood float switch. The scupper takes car of the water when I am moving and the bilge only comes on if I really swamp it or its standing still. The switch works well I would mount it next to the pump because if its not next to it the pump the pump will run dry before the swich cuts out. The attwoods are set up such that the pump starts to suck air for about 5 sec then the switch cuts out.
