Question for you....I have some shots of Pancake Pete at the 2005 Jersey
Rager on MiniDV. On the same tape, I have about 1/2 hour of footage of
my little boy when he was just a few months old. I don't know of a way
to duplicate the tape, and I don't want to send off my original (obviously).

To be honest, I have 1/2 hour of mostly boring stuff (hauling skis to the
beach, people riding aimlessly in the waves, etc)....the good shots of some backflips and rolls are less than a minute long.

If I were to capture that minute of good stuff via Firewire to AVI format
(the 3 megabyte per second format that Vegas Video creates) and send that to you on a data DVD, just as it was captured (not re-rendered to MPEG-2), would that be an acceptable submission for use in the film? Pete has the MPEG-2 that I sent him, and I think he tried to submit it, but you (or somebody) asked for the original MINI-DV tape.

Let me know if this will work, and if so, I'll get it together and send it off.
Or if you know how to duplicate a tape, I can do that, but I would think that
would be more work for you to go through the tape looking for those few
clips that are good than if I sent the few good clips in already captured.

Hey Jetskee!

- Go to your local public access station. They have all the stuff you would need to copy it onto another mini-dv. The one by my house would even let me edit it before putting it to disk. They either charge you or you can tell them that you'll run your own show and then you can use their stuff for free.

Guniess92. DVD's are already compressed and when we get into editing and re-copression, it makes the video look pretty crappy. If you can save the footage as .AVI files or some other un-compresed format, that might work, but if all you got is a DVD then send it and we'll take a look to see if it will work.

Thanks!

Nick.

Good thinking regarding going to the local public access station! Also if you are trying to make dupes of your Mini DV footage and have access to 2 Mini DV cameras just connect them together via the fire wire and hit play on one and record on the other. Very simple. Just to make sure you all know, we use Final Cut Pro 5 here to edit, so if you have a Mac you can digitize using the iMovie program and save the files to DVD or use other Windows edit programs and save files to .AVI and then burn files onto DVD.

Thanks guys!

Got a hold of my brother's camcorder, and 4-pin to 4-pin DV cable, and
did the back-to-back dubbing thing. Worked great.

I dropped a tape in the mail Priority mail today to ya. Hope your June 15 deadline isn't TOO rigid...it should probably show up right on the 15th.

I only have about 5 minutes worth of footage on the tape, but I
think I did the hard part already and weeded it down to just a few
good shots you might be able to use.

Thanks for the opportunity.
