96 SJ makeover

So I bought this ski in Toledo, Ohio around 2005 or so. I brought it home with a speedwerks dry pipe (man do I regret selling that piece of art!) and the dang thing went 61MPH on a GPS if I remember correctly!

I then added footholds and a B pipe and some other minor stuff. My wife rode it for a few years and then we had kids and I felt stressed and sold it to a friend about 12 years ago and it has sat in his barn pretty much ever since then! Mouse poop inside!

Now it is back with me and getting a full resto mod work over! Full tray footholds, shorter steering, 1100GPH auto bilge. The tubbies have been glassed in now and the bottom has a fresh layer of glass on it.

I think I am going for a old school racer look. All gloss white PPG and then all of the stickers on the pole like we used to! But just the stuff that is on the ski....MSD, Protec, R&D, Factory, Skat-trac....old school stuff!

This first pic is 15 years ago before I sold it to my friend Dan.

The second pic is when we pulled it out of his barn.250403305_10158672687342087_3000865719140581315_n.jpgAt Dans.jpg

Anyone recognize these ancient engravings!!!?? I never noticed them 15 years ago because I had not ever had to yank the engine back then.20211101_205637.jpg20211101_205630.jpg

While I had it upside down re-doing the bottom I went ahead and built the rear strakes up high! I am going to file them to a sharp edge like this new ride plate. It should be a fun ski!

760, Head, MSD, Bpipe, short steering and straight bars, BIG front foothold with full tray holds. Glassed in R&D sponsons.

I need to ditch this 14.5 18.5 prop though because if I remember correctly I HATED it!

I beyond loooove my 13/16-3mm Solas, bored nozzle, stock cone but this ski is different (heavier, stock bore on nozzle, stock cone) so I don't know??????20211110_084944.jpg

Thanks @tomski and @waxhead .

This steering should be short enough that I won't need to mess with the pole until if and when it ever breaks! And this is a nice affordable stock bushing set up.

I do year round warm water up the pole so that is why that yellow tygon is there.20211207_095442.jpg20211204_161704.jpg
