760 yami coils?how are the boots connected

I got this coil from magoo,he said it was a brand new yami 760 coil,had more spark and silicone wires were permanently sealed to the boots? its actin up and im thinking on cutting back the wires?

Well how is it connected? something is causing them to ground out,Ive tried clamping down on the boots so they grab the plug tops better,and changing plugs.

bad ground in the elec box?


hell, i just had to replace that coil that yiou and I replaced a month ago :rolleyes:

Scott,Thats the reason I dont mess around with used coils they just crap out so much,Im really surprized this coil is having problems so soon.

What I know for sure......
its not getting water in the intake
I rode it in fresh flatwater droped it on its side a bunch,had no problems at all
Everytime i ride in salt water with decent waves it craps out and misses after splashes for a good 2 min,I get it going up to speed get some air in the hull and it comes back strong till the next splash,SOOOOOO I pull up on the beach let her idle and figure what the hell Ill grab the wires and see if I take a jolt,duhhh,and yea I took a jolt off the front wire I think.this coil is only 8 months old,but has alot of rides on it.

Can these wires be cutt back or what?

do this:

put the ski in the garage, and shut off all the lights........start her up, and mist some water over the wires/head (ocean water works even better)

watch for for arcing.....





i'd just cut the boots off and replace them with some msd's/ngk's....you can get the msd's at the auto parts store if they stock msd items.....






have seen boots go bad as well....or, suck it up and pick up a new coil....

kahona,already got grease in all those connects, and yes the wires are arcing as stated above,or I would not have takin a jolt. Im just surprized a 8 month old coil and wire boot connec is failing. I also rode in in the fresh flats and laid it over all kinds of ways so I know its not the water ingestion from the intake or Oring head like I thought it might be.

Whats DIFFRENT about this 760 coil,and how can I fix it????????? anyone?

What about a bad ground to the elec. box? I have had that same problem before and thats what was causing it. Keep in mind that the only ground wire connecting the battery to the e-box is the one little black wire in the stator harness. If it has a bad connection the ski will run like crap. I always run an extra ground wire from the block to the e-box as a safeguard.

dont think that would cause the plug wires to shock ya though,only a arc,Ill check that while im at though,as not to aquire new problems

Contact Paul, I talked to him about this yesturday, The boots can be replaced, but, It is not like you would do on a regular Coil.........


Oh, Take any ski, stand in the water, crank it up and grab the plug wires........ I have been shocked everytime............

kahuna,yes true if your standing in the water and it s reving hard,but if its idling and your on land it shouldnt light you up. I dont wana bug paul now,he is moving,could you post up what he told you on how to do this?One of my buds here has some sort of special meter that tells the resistance of each plug wire and how much current it takes for it to jump home and ground out. diffrent than a reg meter.just need to get with him on it.

scott,well as I remember the coil looked the same,the boots just were diffrent looking on the 760 oem coils.

Hurrrr...now that you have mentioned that, I will have my wife try that out. :haha:
I speculate that there is something wrong with an electrical system that does what you describe. The ground of the system is not in the water, it's the negative terminal of the battery.
Hence I speculate further...a properly grounded electrical system, with properly insulated spark plug wires, a properly grounded engine block, and good spark plugs, SHOULD NOT give you a jolt.

That said, I'll give it a try. I mean, I'll rev while my wife holds the plug wires. :biggthumpup:
