701 vs 800 sxr motor platforms

800 SXR motor will kill it.

If you put a lightened flywheel, msd enhancer, bump the compression up to 180psi the 701 will be close...

My 2cents. I have both a limited SXR powered X2 (140mm pump), and a 701 x2 (144 pump). Lowend hit is alot weaker on the kawi compaired to limited 701. But the SXR motor will DESTROY the 701 on topend. I think you are going to be VERY disappointed going from an XScream billet motor to a stocker sxr for a freeride/freestyle application. Just my opinion though.

Best thing I have done to the kawi was putting HIGH compression head on it (215psi). Helped lowend alot but buying race gas sucks.

I can tell you if you go with Jetworks for the 800 you will be very happy. My girl rides a SJ with a Jetworks 701 and it runs great but my 800 has alot more power with the same mods . I have actually been thinking of trying it in the SJ hull.

Both have portwork, ada at 185,tbm flywheels ,sxr has advent,sj has msd, blackjack carbs
I think the 800 in a light hull would be a great combo just my 2 cents.

I think you feel a low end hit difference because if the different pumps.. the yami has more bottom hit because of the bigger size. As the kawi has better top end because of the smaller pump

I cannot factually dispute that claim. Although there are FX1 guys getting very good results with 650 140mm X2 pumps.

BUT, I will stick with my previous statement...you will be very disappointed by a limited 800, when your previous boat had a billet pv xscream motor...LOL

Ride whatever you want, I just have spent alot of time on (and own) both platforms, and am relaying my personal experience with both. I think there has to be a reason you dont see alot of big kawi motor setups in non racing apps. For racing kawi hands down.

ya I agree with you.. I just am trying to find the best low buck set up... stock motor vs stock motor.. but maybe I'll just go stock hull again with another x scream motor..

I dunno.. I really wanna buy a q8.. since I'm 100% flat water. I can get a sxr and q8 and be on the water fairly cheap. I can also later on drop a 701 motor in it as it will accept both motors.

I have a 701 with all the bolt ons and an 800 with all the bolt ons. Ign, Alum Fly, Wet Pipe, Carbs, Reeds etc... Basically the same setups. Both running around 180psi. I would say the 701 has tuns more snap but the mid to top on the sxr decimates.

The comparison cant be made easily, the 701 is stuffed in a seriously lighter 300lbs SJ vs the 360's SXR.. Shave that weight and even the pumps out and the SXR prob will have more power. I rode a well built superstock SXR (big bore, ports, 230psi 144mm mag etc) and that sucker had some amazing snap. If a guy could tune that for some more low end.... scary..

Bang for the buck IMO, the 701, more freestyle orientated options and more guys have put the R&D into making it a freestyle kinda engine. Likely you could find a 62T/61x combo in a ski for cheaper than an 800 since you have 96+ vs '03+..

I think the main reason people feel more snap is one, the weight difference, 2 the pump.. The sxr has a longer stroke which should make for more torque correct?? The big advantage to starting with an sxr is everything will bolt on to the q8 and be ready to rip, where as if I buy a superjet, I would need alot of extra parts to get it to run.

There are some aftermarket big bore kawis now... and I think with a mag pump it could be close to sj hp.

The 800 motor is a good motor that is usually in a heavy a$$ hull. Put it in a light hull like DJ and all of a sudden, it seems to have a lot more power. Only problem with the 800 is they are very prone to crack the cylinder sleeves. I have seen stock cylinders with little to no time on them with huge cracks between the transfer ports. I have also seen motors run forever and not crack at all. It is kind of weird.

The 701 Yamaha is pretty much bulletproof and there are a ton more people selling parts for them. Plus, it has been around since the dawn of time and so many good shops can set you up with whatever your checkbook can handle.

the 701 will be more reliable to boot.the cranks last longer, the cases are stronger and the port timing and configuration is better for a freeride/style boat.
stock for stock.
