2009 superjet or 2009 kawi 800 sxr ????

Both are great ski's. Really boils down to what you want to do with it.

SXR Great for ripping up the lake, running bouys. Not a great freestyle ski.

09 SJ. Same features as the SXR but lighter. Power to weight is similar. Better for freestyle but the hull is not one that will break loose for slides.

96-07 SJ Better for freeride/freestyle, lighter, nimble, just a much better play ski. Plenty of parts available, does not take much to bump up the power.

Agreed!!!

How does the 09' Sj handle heavy chop racing compared to SXR's?

I havent tried a new one yet but it seems like the heavier and slightly larger SXR would get through it better/faster

That is a tough one, may depend on the chop.

What I learned at a rough surf race with the SXR is it plowed through the waves, could not get it on top of chop. The SJ may be able to get up on top due to lighter weight but may be thrown around more which will mean slower speeds and lap times where the SXR may stay hooked up more.

In a lake race if it is fairly choppy like at Nationals I would pic the SXR. On a race course that is smoother because of less ski's on the course the SJ may shine. (alot depends on the rider)

I beg to differ that the new SJ hulls will not break loose to slide.. You just have to get used to a new technique to do it and it will slide very easy.

The new sj rides on top of the chop. So long as you keep your speed up. Bog it down in a corner carving too hard and it can be tricky to get the nose down and hold a good line especially when it's low on fuel.

They're both great skis and you'll have fun on either one. If you're just looking to mess around a little on the lake, it dosen't really matter.

I haven't ridden a new superjet yet but you can lay an sxr on it's rails and it won't slide out. My superjet spins with a blip of the throttle and a quick jerk of the bars, but I've heard the same can't be said for the new ones.

I'd try to ride both, a couple times, back to back before making a decision. If you wait until winter you should be able to get a used 08 somewhere but there's a pretty slim chance one will pop up in your area. SXR's can be had for 3500. If you're not dead set on a new one, that's a big plus

I have both the SXR and 4 superjets. I like my superjets much more. The SXR is a fun ski to ride. Just heavy. It does run good in chop and turns on rails. Great ski for racing. My riding style is more geared towards freeride and freestyle. So naturally I am more comfortable on a Superjet.

I have both an SXR and a Super Jet also. Since I live in Oceanside and primarily ride the surf, I ride my Super Jet the majority of the time. I’ve ridden my SXR in the surf but it’s not as fun as my SJ. However, on the few times I do ride flat water (usually on the Colorado River) the SXR is the machine. The SXR’s extra weight makes it carve like a beast. Comparing the two is really like comparing apples to Oranges as they were both designed for different aspects of the sport. That being said, if you can’t afford both then I would suggest you go with a Super Jet as of the two it is a more versatile ski.

This thread is actually making me want to try an SXR. I wish my sj could carve "on rails". On days when there aren't any waves the sj can actually get a little boring. I still have fun, but I could see how the sxr could be a fun flat water carving boat.

Get the superjet if you want the ultimate freeride/freestyle ski(96-07 of course). I haven't ridden an 08-09 hull, but it supposively carves like mad and still is light.

Only reason to get an sxr is a) you want a super stable standup ski or b) you race and want a more stable ski with a wider tray.

And yes I like stirring the pot!!!!!!!

I've got 20+ years riding and racing kawi's. Last weekend I rode an 08 SJ with footholds. I liked it alot. It turned/carved really good. The footholds made the tray feel much wider. It was the first time that I rode a sj and wanted to get one. I have ridden several other older sj's but they just weren't my style. I wouldn't give up my SXR for an 08 sj but I would like to have both (probably will one day)

My SXR convinced me I need a Superjet. SXR carve nice, ride nice in heavy chop, but they just not as playful as a Superjet. SXR are bigger, heavier (50+ lbs), and thirster. AM Parts are more expensive too.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed my SXR, but It was a happy day when I traded it for a Tubbied Superjet. Then I bought 08' SJ it handles like an SXR, and still plays like superjet for me.

They are both excellent skis. You can set either one of them up for freestyle/play riding or racing/carving but the SJ will excel at freestyle and the SXR will excel at racing. Both are great skis it just depends on your riding preference.
