I recently took in a XPL on trade that has a brand new motor in it- new oem crank, pistons, cylinders. Because the market for selling an XPL sucks, I have decided to part it out and use the motor for an SXR swap. I have an empty SXR hull in the works.
I have been doing a lot of research and calling around and I have two questions that remain unanswered.
It seems that most people are using some sort of driveshaft coupling. I was told that peak powersports even sells a conversion coupler but they do not answer their phone and none of the conversion parts are listed on thier website.
I was thinking about using a GSX PTO, which is splined, and having the SXR shaft re-splined. Has anyone done this? It seems like it would be the easiest way. If not, what couplings/adapters are people using?
My other question, and im completely stumped on this one, is what to use for an ignition system. How are people getting around using the seadoo MPEM? The key is married to the MPEM and all of the sensors and etc are monitored by the MPEM. Since you no longer need the gauges, vts, etc. I dont see any reason why the SXR stock electrical box cannot be made to work somehow.
MSD or Advent ignitions are overpriced.. so Id really like to avoid having to go that route.
If an aftermarket ignition is the only way, what is the cheapest?
Can it then be wired to the kawasaki start/stop and the MPEM will be completely bypassed?
Im sorry if these are FAQ questions.. ive been researching and asking around and not getting concrete answers..
Ive done a couple of hull swaps of my own in the past so I can handle the fabbing and can make custom mounts.. its mostly the electrical stuff that has me stumped. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
