SXR 2 Questions about swapping a 951 into a SXR

I recently took in a XPL on trade that has a brand new motor in it- new oem crank, pistons, cylinders. Because the market for selling an XPL sucks, I have decided to part it out and use the motor for an SXR swap. I have an empty SXR hull in the works.

I have been doing a lot of research and calling around and I have two questions that remain unanswered.

It seems that most people are using some sort of driveshaft coupling. I was told that peak powersports even sells a conversion coupler but they do not answer their phone and none of the conversion parts are listed on thier website.

I was thinking about using a GSX PTO, which is splined, and having the SXR shaft re-splined. Has anyone done this? It seems like it would be the easiest way. If not, what couplings/adapters are people using?

My other question, and im completely stumped on this one, is what to use for an ignition system. How are people getting around using the seadoo MPEM? The key is married to the MPEM and all of the sensors and etc are monitored by the MPEM. Since you no longer need the gauges, vts, etc. I dont see any reason why the SXR stock electrical box cannot be made to work somehow.
MSD or Advent ignitions are overpriced.. so Id really like to avoid having to go that route.
If an aftermarket ignition is the only way, what is the cheapest?
Can it then be wired to the kawasaki start/stop and the MPEM will be completely bypassed?

Im sorry if these are FAQ questions.. ive been researching and asking around and not getting concrete answers..
Ive done a couple of hull swaps of my own in the past so I can handle the fabbing and can make custom mounts.. its mostly the electrical stuff that has me stumped. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I believe you use a 951 exhaust.

Pwctoday has a ton of threads on this.... Do a search over there. I hope you are using this for racing...because from what I have heard, they are WAYYYY to heavy for freeriding or freestyling and the intakes are too low.

SXR-FOREVER

Finally Flippin
Should be a fun ski to carve. I have a buddy who is going to build up a triple in an sxr which should be a hell of alot of fun...especially if you can keep pace with the rich kids and their parent's RXP's on the water!

I've seen a few but never rode 1. Most run Coffman pipes & Advent T4 for ignition.
I have ridden 1100sxr. The weight helps the ski handle better. Great rec boat

Ill wager that its a good wave jumper too. Granted, its 25lbs heavier than stock but it has a hell of a lot more thrust... so what it loses in weight it gains in bottom end. It should rocket out of the water off of a wake.

Yeah I was hoping to pitch the prop and get decent hook up.

Honestly, I wasnt looking for this to be a money pit.. I have other projects going on and Im just not that serious about it.. so im not buying an expensive pump.
I currently have a stock 2010 SXR and I just like riding around.. im not a serious/hardcore stand up rider. This is just intended to be a fun project. My priorities lie with another build this winter -which is a GPR/SHO swap.

As it is im already regretting the build because I have to buy the coffmans pipe, which is expensive and nearly impossible to find and an overpriced ignition system. I was really hoping to bolt up all of the stock seadoo parts into this hull and go when I originally started thinking about the build.

That link to the ADA coupling is a huge help! Thank you!!

There are two versions of the 951: the GSX and the XPL. The GSX has a splined PTO and the shaft goes right into it. The XPL had a coupling setup. I assume that this is a direct replacement for the XPL coupling and threads onto the existing mid-shaft.

Hey man I'm in CT and wire with the best of them! Also know these skis every well. Let me know when you need some help I would love to ride a 951 sxr.
Take a look at my fixed steer sxr flat deck build. If you want to ride a real fun SXR this is it! I know it looks fun y but this hood is the best thing to happen to the SXR!

I know who you are Mark. I am a good friend of Joe Lesniak.
I think you know who I am too. Im a coucher.. and Ive built some pretty fast skis and I ride with some other fast couchers. Im the one who built the yellow/white GPR/4-tec conversion, which I recently sold. I was out on it on Lake Zoar with you guys the day of the PWCToday meet a couple of months ago.
Im also the one who had the two built rxps that Jay @ XSPaint painted. I sold one to buy an FZR this summer and the other is the Mrs' ski.

Help Joe get that Jetmate running!!

Seriously, if you can help me avoid buying an expensive ignition system to get this swap to work, Ill be in your debt.

Oh ya Jamies right? Ya man I'm sure I can work it out. But you need to ride this fixed steer hood!

And I have been asking Joe to bring that jetmate over for weeks now.

James. Yeah.

Just go scoop it up. Otherwise, its going to sit there and rot. He will never finish it and hes not motivated to bring it to you.
You could have it running in a matter of hours.

That needs to be the official boat of Lake Zoar for the 2011 season.

Swapping a two stroke is not like swapping a 4-tec where the ecu, gauges, and mpem are all married. In theory, any ignition should work for this. I have priced out the advent @ $700 and the MSD @ $950!! I refuse to pay that much for an ignition system just to make this work. There has to be a way to either get the SXR ignition or the Seadoo ignition to work. The problem with the seadoo ignition is that its all inside the MPEM along with the sensor controls, the gauge controls, the vts controls, and a lot of other usless shyt. The MPEM is huge, as is the wiring harness so I dont want to cram it all into this hull...

LMK your thoughts. Joe said you were good at wiring stuff up! Electrical stuff is my weakness... I admit.

I have the whole XPL ski and a SXR hull with eveything but the motor. Im trying to decide what I can part out form the XPL. There is a demand for working electronics.
It seems that no matter what, Im not going to be able to use the seadoo ignition because its all tied to the MPEM. I just want to confirm it before I start selling stuff off.

Don't sell anything till you get it working. That's the smart way to do it.
Do you have the hull already? You need to buy the mounting plates.

I have a friend who runs a machine shop. Im going to take it over his place, mock it up, measure, and have him make me the conversion mounts. Ill then install the mounts and it will be off to Dem's shop for paint.
