1994 Superjet 700S CDI: 6M6–01 F8T13173

1994 Yamaha SuperJet 700 CDI replacement/rebuild. We have a crank no spark condition.

This is what it says on the CDI:

6M6–01

F8T13173

4826

Jet Ski Solutions rebuilt our ignition coil and wires, but the condition persists.

I assumed that I burned out the Lighting Coil on the stator from running two bilge pumps. So I removed it before testing and bought and installed a cheap Chinese Stator and packaged up the OEM stator to send to Jet Ski Solutions for them to rebuild.

But with the cheap Chinese stator the crank no spark condition persists.

The cheap Chinese stator VAC output is as follows with battery charger/starter plugged in:

Charge coil: 77--79 VAC

Pulse coil: 5VAC but I don't have an Analog VM but my Innova 3420 pulses red when cranking.

Lighting coil: 5.5 VAC with one lead on one green and other lead on other green

So now I am thinking it is the CDI.

HUGE SHOUT OUT TO JET SKI SOLUTIONS ! ! ! ! !

AFTER POSTING THIS THREAD I SENT A CONTACT EMAIL REQUEST TO JET SKI SOLUTIONS, expecting them to get back to me hopefully early next week BECAUSE IT IS SUNDAY TODAY.

COREY AT JSS EMAILED ME BACK WITHIN MINUTES AND ASKED ME TO EMAIL HIM A COUPLE PICTURES OF MY YAMAHA 701 OEM STATOR, THEN TOLD ME THAT THE STATOR LOOKED GOOD. THEN COREY DIRECTED ME TO DO A COUPLE OF CHECKS WITH THE DIGITAL VOLT METER. AFTER NO FEWER THAN 6 EMAILS FROM COREY (12 total back and forth) COREY SAID THAT THE OEM STATOR WAS LIKELY GOOD AND THAT THE CDI WAS LIKELY BAD.

AND COREY OFERED TO SELL ME THE APPROPRIATE MSD ENHANCER CDI. AFTER I AGREED, HE SAID JSS WAS OUT OF STOCK SO INSTEAD HE SENT ME THE LINK TO THE APPROPRIATE MSD CDI ON AMAZON.

HE SAID "NO WORRIES BUY IT FROM AMAZON.'

I AM NOW A LIFE LONG LOYAL CUSTOMER OF JET SKI SOLUTIONS.

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE. JET SKI SOLUTIONS HAS GOT OUR BACKS ! ! ! ! !

Well, just got the MSD 650/701 Enhancer CDI * and hooked it up per the instructions and all I have to say is:

NOT ONLY DOES JET SKI SOLUTIONS HAVE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE (see above post) BUT THEY WERE 100% SPOT ON DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM VIA EMAIL.

THAT NEW CDI WHICH COREY AT JET SKI SOLUTIONS RECOMMENDED STARTED RIGHT UP BABY ! ! ! !

* I did not buy it from Amazon. Since Jet Ski Solutions was out of stock, I decided to keep my purchase in our Jet Ski community, so I bought it for the same price with free shipping from John at Blowsion. Blowsion got the sale, but Corey at Jet Ski Solutions correctly diagnosed that the CDI was the problem, not the stator.

JET SKI SOLUTIONS IS OUTSTANDING ! ! ! !

Just little update. I took about four hours to put the electrical box back together. First, I was confused because the photo of our jet ski showed the battery cable coming out of the bottom of the electrical case with the top being smooth with no wires coming out. Then I realized that although the colors were identical the graphics around the engine compartment were wrong and I was looking at a photo of a stock '94 or '95 FX-1 which I had downloaded a couple of years ago and not a photo of our '94 Super Jet.

FYI, the battery cable and cable to the starter enter the electrical case on the FX-1 from the bottom of the case, while they enter the electrical case from the top on the '94-'95 Super Jet.

Also, the MSD CDI is thicker. That means you will have to buy two 3/8 - 1/2 longer stainless machine screws to bolt it down. And because of that additional thickness, the little plastic rectangular wire loom will not fit in the case and must be dispensed with.

I could not find a torque spec for the electrical box screws, but since they are similar to a wood screw (as opposed to a machine screw) that does not surprise me. Also there was no requirement for any version of Locktite.

Anyway, it is all together, the ski starts immediately on either and I am just awaiting the new intermediate shaft housing/unit from JetManiac to get this baby back out on the water.
