05 Civic trailer hitch, do I need a ModuLite?

So I did some searching and no one has mentioned anything about a ModuLite. I supposedly need one b/c my car can't output enough current for the trailer lights? Has anyone installed one? It supposedly has to run from the battery all the way back to the hitch.

So far the cheapest class 1 hitch I've found is from Uhaul for $120 plus $40 for the modulite plus whatever for the ball and receiver. Are there any other places I can look? I've called around and most places want $280 to $300 to install all this stuff. I know I can install the hitch I'm just curious about this modulite. This kicker is I need the parts or have it done by Friday so I can get my trailer on Sat and pick the ski up on Sunday.

Thanks,

J

Edit: just talked to another Uhaul place that said I don't need to install the modulite, I can just use the regular adapter that's only $17. Opinions?

Switch over the trailer to L.E.D. Light's they don't draw hardly any power. That's a whole lot cheaper and they are brighter not to mention last way longer and they are sealed.

Most automotive part's houses should have them.Truck stop's usually have a good selection of L.E.D. light's also, Ya Know where the chicken hauler's hang out lol.you can get L.E.D light's that fit right in the same receptacle as the incandescent bulb's.

This works fine for me. You will probably need a converter for your trailer wiring, but there should be no need to run seperate power, especially if you use LEDs. The hitch should bolt on.

It may or may not be necessary but it can help protect your tow vehicle's wiring.

Check out Etrailer.com for info, putting in 05 Civic leads to a Modulite.

For $50 I'd do it if you plan to do a lot of towing. Tow Packages tend to come standard with some type of isolator like a Modulite. The OEM tow package I added to my car included an isolator.

my plug and play kit for my jeep came w/ 1, it shorted in a month so i just bypassed it also, your really not pulling any current w/ 194 and 1157 bulbs, most of the time they use the box on modern cars so they dont display a bulb out light due to the extra draw. I went to led's this year also cause im tired of replacing bulbs!!!

My 97 civic needed a converter to be able to run a 4 pin connector and I am pretty sure most cars do.

They told me I did too at uhaul for my 2000 accord. Then I went and bought a new plug because I dragged mine behind the car for 20 miles and wrecked it.

There is another place to plug it in where you don't need the converter and it plugs right in!!!! I now have two stupid trailer plugs in my Accord!!! The one with the "converter" (got rippped off!!!!) and the one that plugged right in!!

No, you don't need separate power. Madmat pulled his with a Civic.

Thanks for all the tips, now I just need to find a freakin' hitch! Everyone in town wants $160 to $180 for a stupid class 1 hitch. U-Haul's is only $120 but none in stock for 100 miles so I have to pay shipping and tax so that's over $150. I found a Valley Tow 58580 on Amazon for $112 shipped and all the searching I do says it will fit. Anyone use a Valley hitch, or read anything really bad about them? It still won't get here until next week but I guess that's what I'm gonna have to deal with.

Go to your local Pepboys and make them order one for you. You only pay about a $100 plus tax, no shipping charge.
