By circumvent, I mean eliminate the waterbox from the exhaust system. Yes, that's a stock 1996 SuperJet waterbox.

I wouldn't think that would be such a big deal, though. Is backpressure an issue with the waterbox?

The water box uses water to help muffle the sound waves. If you mount it upside-down, it won't hold the water and won't do an effective job for what it was designed. You might have to circumvent it altogether which I don't think is too much of a big deal, just louder.
