Ive drilled and jb welded in a pressed brass fitting before with no problems. I couldn't get the exact tolerance for the perfect "press fit", so a little JB on and slide her in!

Milky gear oil indicates water intrusion. Could be leaking in through drain plug, but highly unlikely. Have it pressure tested to see if you need a complete seal/o-ring kit, and new shaft seal. Then pressure test again after parts installed.

They all wear eventually, but yeah the grease acts like a cushion.. There has to be a little tiny bit of play so that you can assemble.

Dont do it... Keel guards are very expensive and dont last, they end up peeling or start ripping off one way or another, and if you suck up a piece of it in your pump it can do some major damage to your pump/impeller/driveshaft. Best bet is to repair it back to normal(if its beach damaged...
