That would be my preference, make something to work with what people already have, the flywheels are pretty much not going to go out, the pickups not so much but I personally have never had on fail on me.

Start with the basics , do a compression test , change the spark plugs and go through the carbs before trying to chase any electrical-ignition gremlins down.

It will work if it has a 701 flywheel and stator , it won't even plug up to a 760 stator harness.
