They're just regular washers, they don't do anything for alignment. I've heard diff stories of why the notch is there, but none of them involved alignment. A good stainless fender washer should be fine.
Nice...looked like fun. Go-pro always makes the waves look about 1/2 as big as they really are, so it must have been good. That seal looked pizzed off!
Trying to preserve the Frankenstein paint job. It's gonna be a challenge because I have some hull mods in mind too. The paint job is too classic now to ruin and it's actually held up amazingly well for 4 years of abuse.

The Kawi shaft has a small hole through it near the coupler end. You can use a hardened steel pin or phillips screw driver blade through the hole and then put it in the vise. The pin will keep the shaft from rotating in the vise jaws. Heat the coupler up very well and it will come right off...
