try to leave as much as possible of the vertical rear portion as the xft's are a biatch to seal there and usually end up leaking anyhow. you can contour it once you have the holds in hand(or foot). ditto with the lower screw take your time and seal them up RRRRRREEEEAAAALLLLL good.

you're fine.just load it up with waterproof grease,check it periodicaly and hope for the best.hell, they leak when new anyway.

impeller,bored nozzle,pipe,porting,hi comp head,carb. you can buy parts for it pretty much anywhere.look on pwctoday.boatloads of stuff there. hell, even i have parts for those. impellers can still be new but there is plenty of nos or barely used parts out there.

550 are fun too once modded a bit but a sj will be better.

last year for 550 is 1993. do the usual checks before buying.cranks and seals are the weakest links,otherwise very reliable with modicum of maintenance. a few mods will wake an sx up nicely.

looks like a later model hydro ski f1 or f2 engines were supposed to be built by ocean pro (100hp) and the hull used triax fiber for strenght.
