this bump holds the piston ring in position at bottom dead center.it's located were the ring locating pin is on the piston.without this bump,the ring will pop out a bit and snag on the port when going back up.
idk,at $20 to $50 each time,it ends up being much cheaper than full time but then at my age my maintenance needs are less with each passing day so more gets to the skis.i still get my cake and get to eat it too! figuratively only that is:)
i still have some system 3 epoxy i bought in 1988 iirc.got hard so did the hot water thing and it's still fine and hardens exactly as it did when new.mfg was not concerned one bit by it's age.
