I used the old FX1 pump nut thingy mibobbers and piloted a hole for the ring to sit in. I then mixed a thick batch of epoxy filler and smothered it all over the wings of the nuts to lock them in place. Doesn't look good and I am sure there is better ways of doing it, but I torqued the hell out...
Update: Mr. Champion and Tiago came over today to help me with a few - much needed items. Jon Hall came down from Orange County to help. We are working on the pump right now. Tomorrow will be turf and assembly. Jon and I will most likely be riding on Sunday. Good times... :Banane57:
Jason of BJ's Performance put his business on pause just to come down and paint my boat. He does phenomenal work and I wouldn't let anyone paint this boat but him. He came down and the first thing he did was unravel the film and put up a paint booth in the garage.
Here is the ski fully sanded to 320 grit. I spent a lot of time knocking out high and low spots on the hull. I used epoxy filler to fill in any gouges and sanded the excess off. Good fun...
This is how it started...Zack was talking to me for about 5-10 minutes on getting barreled. I was so eager to see a picture of him doing it. He totally had me on my knees waiting for this pic. He made it worse by prolonging the wait time for the picture by giving excuses. Finally he showed me...
So last night I had a dinner with my girlfriends family in Ventura. I decided to stay the night and watch the guys ride the next morning (today.) The surf was phenomenal! Perfect hollow lefts breaking consistently all the way down the shore line. I knew that today was going to be epic so I...
I strongly disagree with re-welding tabs on the wear ring. If done so, the heat may warp the wear ring causing it to be imperfect. I wouldn't let anyone weld tabs on a wear ring unless they were a master welder. Even then I would ask them to weld a band all the way around.
Everyone realizes that Blowsion and Wamiltons are looking at this thread right? May not want to say anything that would not support their products and services as you may need them one day! :newangel:
Looking forward to riding with you and your son in the near future. We have a lot of younger guys riding now. I have seen at least 4-5 guys under the age of 16 with their own skis. So I think your son will fit right in! And you of course!
These are really great tubbies and I highly recommend them to anyone that wants something totally trick and bomb proof. If I didn't already have Blowsion tubbies, my ski would be in your shop right now!
Out of the factory, the FX1 top deck was relatively thin. And anyone that knows me will tell you that I haven't exactly mastered my barrel rolls yet. Many times I flat land on the side of my ski. Only God knows how high Eddie Bettencourt went in the air and experienced failed roll attempts over...
These FX1's are old hulls and I don't think the engineers took into account that guys would be flipping these skis in the surf and landing on their sides. The previous owner and I have done some nice damage to this hull and unfortunately its very noticeable. If I were to paint without taking...
