The new SJ is way better than the old (with or without tubbies) for carving and high speeds. I'd say comparable to an SXR but more nimble and playful. It sounds like exactly what you are looking for. IMO there is no better rec/lake boat.
Locked up the engine from water intrusion and neglect. Pulled it apart to find some sort of big bore sleeve. The top of the cylinder definitely appears to be cut approximately the width of the spacer. Port work between the sleeves and castings looks pretty crap. I cant tell if the builder was...
They owned up but tried to throw $1000 at me to have me handle it myself. I told them I'd get it fixed and send them the bill. Hopefully it's not too difficult getting it taken care of.
I have been told the stock cylinder transfers are not large enough to effectively handle any more case volume than stock. Not saying that is entirely your problem but I'd think it might play a part.
Just buy a cheap HF harmonic puller and throw away all the parts you don't use. I like to throw a couple nuts jammed together on the three screws that thread into the wheel that act as a depth stop to keep me from wrecking a stator.
