what compression , octane, and timing are you running?

that makes absolutely no difference. if a chunk of metal from the bearings is jumping around in there, it's going to ping the hell out of every single bit of surface area there is. not only that, but it's going to look "gouged", not "cooked" and melted. it's detonation brutha : ) bet.

less surface area to come in contact with the cylinder walls to better accommodate faster and sustained piston speeds. they hold oil too.

it actually does look more like deto than a needle bearing. you're right. if it was a piece of metal of some sort it wouldn't just be concentrated on the outer edges of the piston and head. also, apon closer inspection I noticed that the "pitting" is more of a small "crater" shape than a "jab"...
