    Okay, I was thinking jet ski specific failures. I have mostly found retainer failures often caused by corrosion. I can’t nail down the exact cause of rod bearing failure since they get too chewed up and burned before the engine stops.

    How are they failing? Is it the retainer? Are they getting hot due to lack of clearance?

    If you want more acceleration bore the nozzle. Check your RPM,, it should be at least 6800 with a stock 61X cylinder. It may be okay with a little less rpm as long as the pipe hits fast enough. Higher ports will need a little less load for more RPM.

    The bolts can’t get loose without the gasket crushing first. Check them after the first ride then every few until it stays tight. If the paper gasket keeps giving way use a thin metal one.

    Those heads weren't for cheating, they were for the limited class where a stock head casting was required. The only advantage would be if a Rotax style combustion chamber was desired. Otherwise you would just use different heads.

    The metal gets thin so be careful making them too flat once they are raised.. Another option is pulling the liners and matching the cylinder to lower them. This will give many setup options but few people do this. A good pipe is required before raising the transfers will do anything.

    If I had that ski , I would get a 750, a pipe, and prop. Repair everything else, especially the loose pole, and it would be a very fun ski. It would cost an extra $3000 or more to do it right. I have done this to all my old Kawasakis and they're actually enjoyable to ride now.

    Changing the regulator (pop off) affects part throttle mixture (pilot jet) a lot but does little at full throttle. Do not go into tuning a carb with any ideas about what jets it needs. That’s a great way to melt a piston!
