    The full length hull will do barrel rolls and hood tricks. That engine and pipe may make good power provided the pump load is set correctly. The ski is old and should be completely disassembled inspected and repaired.

    The old oval K&Ns had a fiber element that constricts then it gets water on it. They make watercraft flame arrestors without the fiber. I guess saying that they suck would also work but at least you know why.

    You must tune the main circuit rich enough to reduce power for a couple of tanks. All large two strokes struggle with high combustion temps.

    All Solas 144 yamaha impellers tend to have a lot of load . They do work very well once you get the pump matched to the engine. Pay attention to throttle response, if it takes more than a second to reach full power it needs to be pitched down.

    Make it sputter around 1/4 throttle with the pilot and make it rich of peak RPM at full throttle with the main jet/top screw. Thats (about) all there is to carb tuning.
