Just about every engine I've ever seen has some oil leak by on the flywheel side of the crank seals. A little oil in that area won't hurt anything. All of the electrical is insulated and oil isn't conductive. Clean it up and put it back together. Considering that ski is probably 25 years old...

So your starter has 4 brushes, as you probably figured out. If one isn't making contact then one of the two windings will not be used and only work at half strength. This seems to also happen when people buy non OEM starters that lack the torque the OEM ones do, so you get similar symptoms...

Sounds like a brush isn't making good contact and only has 1/2 of the torque. I'd pull the starter and check it out again. Take a little sandpaper to the commutator and brush face and put it back together.

My dealer I just bought my Superjet through said that they're sold out of pretty much everything; watercraft, atvs, side by sides etc. They won't even sell trailers by themselves because people buying skis need them. They've sold 300 Sparks for 2021 already, incredible.

Awesome. It's always a bit more fun to ride a ski you took great pride in making it nice. Allows you to bond with the ski and ensure it's a keeper.
