Thanks - I like it that way too. A little WD40 on your finger as you smooth the silicon in really helps too, but the cotton buds are the real time saver.
That's exactly what I did and why I did it. I've seen a few WTB posts recently about Raider nozzles so I thought I'd bring this up to shed some light: it sure is easier just to bolt on the Raider part if you don't want to go for the extra throw. But I was like you: if Yamaha spent the money to...
It takes some time to make it look good, but it's not hard. Run a bead in there, spread it with your finger, and use a cotton bud to clean out the grooves.
A bunch of people use Raider nozzles for their trim system, and others weld bosses to their SJ nozzles to take the trim ring. The Raider nozzle is an easy, bolt-on option, but the taper is not the same as the SJ reduction nozzle. I've never really heard a good discussion about what the different...
Bingo! I am a good case study here. I bought a brand new '06 ski when I started in this sport, and that was because I didn't know a damn thing. I got it into my head one day that I wanted a standup (I'd ridden one once a few years before) and so I started to look around. I could afford a new...
The edges look cleaner if you paint first end then turf over, but I actually run a bead of silicon around the edge of the turf when I'm done so it doesn't really matter. My $0.02 would be to paint first if you aren't going to silicon, and it doesn't matter if you are.
You missed my point. I'm saying that the $18k you spent probably got you about $6k value in mods if you had done most of the work yourself. My point was that since so many people on here do this kind of work themselves, that the VALUE of the mods is a lot less than the COST. That's what you have...
Here's the back end of my ski: I kept the OEM profiles so I could slide the OEM exhaust right back in there. I also left the pump cavity alone so I didn't have to modify the rideplate. I still have the molds for the inserts if you want to borrow them.
The value of any item is not related to what it cost you, but what it's worth to others. What you have there is a nice ski, but mostly bolt-on mods that almost everyone on this site would have done for themselves. The motor work is a nice bonus, but that's a very mild modification. The rebuilt...
One thing to think about is that if you ever have any desire to try back flipping then you really don't want much ski behind your heel. Just a thought.-
Surf or flat? For flatwater you want them all the way back. Absolutely don't ride it to see how it feels and install them there! It feels very weird once you first get your footholds in and start riding the ski, but you very quickly get used to it and then you appreciate why they're designed to...
Why has nobody marketed a pressure activated, CO2 inflated emergency balloon that brings your ski back up if it sinks? Surely that couldn't take up too much room/weight? Maybe integrated into the handlepole?
