A basic suggestion: Check to make sure the ventilation valve in the top of the gas tank is not clogged. If air cannot displace the fuel that is being pulled from the tank, then you will bog and stall.

Other than a good overall visual inspection, look at the prop for chips, and more importantly CHECK COMPRESSION.

I def agree with NorCalSJ.....stay away from the older stuff if you have cash. If you get all your gear together, and you go to the lake, and have to wrench, thats a total bummer, and a WASTE of a day.
