There is nothing wrong with the 650sx series of skis. Not as fun as a superjet, thats for sure, but they are cheap and parts are plentiful. They will easily haul a 210lb person around and are great to learn on.

question about lightning the flywheel. Do you take the magnets off and then reattach them, assuming you lighten from the inside out, or how is it done? Do you just shave off the outer bit a few mils or what?

How? On my 650sx's, there is a 1 way check valve that will allow air into the tank, but unless its on its side for several minutes, very little water if any will get into the tank.

I've repainted an old 550 before and there was a ton of sanding involved. Can you use chemicals like Dad's paint remover or something similar to strip the paint from a hull, or does that delaminate or otherwise hurt the hull in any way? I'm looking to do this to an 88 X2 and possibly an 89...

I have an aftermarket pjs rideplate on mine with 2 skegs that really helps stop the skidding and helps with turning as compared to my other 650sx that has a flat pjs rideplate.

Wow that looks good. Does the turf wrap all the way under the rub rail? Is it just held on by contact cement on both the rail and the turf?

When putting hydroturf on your rub rails, do you remove the existing rub rail crap or just turf over the rub rails? I'm guessing you remove the existing ones, but wanted to ask first. Some hulls have bolts holding the top and bottom together so how do you work around that? Close up pics...
