48s will work great, it's been a tried and tested option where I'm from with big carbs on sub 800 motors. Tl and high compression will do great put a 155 behind imho
The 64x uses a pickup to trigger the spark, the 64x flywheel also decreases timing on pto cylinder. Grind off the small 1/4" node on the flywheel to get proper timing to the other cylinder on the 760 setup. This could be a reason why your back to back test came up short.
You can buy one of those big hub oem stators for around 250 brand new if you can mod it yourself might be a ok option aswell. Youll just need to determine yournshaft lengths
