Crank seal Oil In cover do I need to worry ??

Everything happens for a reason right....

So I do my season winter inspection and also wanted to install 62T JSS electrics and a scupper so I pull the engine , so after removing the flywheel cover and Flywheel I run across this oil/gas ...currently the engine is tilted backwards so the screw as indicator might only show half the height..

I have seen oil in there before but not this amount do you think the crank seals are bad.. ??

Thnak you for any advise

IMO that is not enough to worry about/change the front seal yet.

But if you do decide to do it it is pretty easy to sneak in a front seal.

You will have it in the back of your mind all summer if you don't change it now. I alway's have a little bit of oil in there just because I like to soak my bendix in trans. fluid I have never had a problem with one since on kawi or yamaha. I disagree with some saying you can have a air leak on a front seal anyway. jmo

I had a brand new crank seal on my engine that I leak checked prior to running it. Rode around a couple weeks on the lake and two days in Daytona. When I cracked the flywheel cover it had a bunch of goop in it as well but I could clearly see that it wasn't water coming in through the cover gasket.

How do you actually prevent this?

That looks just like every front seal that Ive ever seen. How old is your engine and how is it modified? OEM seals will usually last as long as the top end but with calender time also factored in. Everyone in my area can usually get 3 seasons before maintenance problems show up. So either run it until it blows or do a lot of careful maintenance.

Engine was built in April 09 and was only run between April & finals Havasu...

so half a season I guess...

The way this one looks I am quite confident it needs to be replaced...

I have that pump and some rubber stuff for leak down, does it require the pistons to be in certain position ? Or just block intake and exhaust manifold and pressurize thru pulse line, both line or one puls fine and block the other one ?

And 9 seems high, is that just for a quick test and then another 6 for like 10 mins or so .?? I havent done one in so so long

With a good flywheel cover gasket and good starter O ring I would trust that not to air leak kinda.....but I would definitely just change it while your in there.
