Crank pulled, Damage exposed, pics uploaded

Are u saying your Easy-out broke off IN the starter bolt? Then you're stuck... those things can't be drilled. I had that happen to the manifold on my Mustang. Had to replace the whole thing :(

Yes the easy out broke. Why cant i just drill out the hole and threads and use a tap with a larger thread and just use a bigger bolt? i think the easy out was softer metal then the bolt as when i first started threading it the threads just stripped off till i finally got it started.

If its $140 to go .5mm does that mean it will be hundreds more to go 3 mm out? or will they just do it all at once for about the same price?

Anything can be drilled with the correct drill bit,it will be expensive,if all else fails you can have it EDM machined out,it will be expensive.

It usually cost slightly more to go big bore because it means several more passes with the boring bar, which means more setup time, also the pistons for big bore applications are limited, you will probably have to go with Wiseco pistons which are quite good and quite expensive compared to the cast pistons available on the market.

Sounds like you are gonna be into this thing for a ton of money already... Why not start with another set of cases. Are you running 61X or 62T cases? Probably going to be cheaper than having the old ones drilled. 61X cases can be had for around $30 and the 62T for about $150 +

Get a WSM top end kit, buy a used crank for $150-$200, file down the domes in the head, and be done.

PM Chris (Jetmanica) he has a new line of Engines. He had a few at Daytona, Ported, Fresh motor, Very, very, very nice set up. 62T cases, I think his start at 710cc & he has one ready to go now!

Your going to put a lot of $$$ into your motor!!! It might be cheaper to buy one ready to go!

Everyone learns the lesson of easy outs the hard way... They're hardened steel, the bolt is stainless, and the case is aluminum. Even a steady hand is not going to be good enough and you'll end up making a huge mess of everything.

Thats what im thinking over in my head. I think if i just want it back to oem all i need is one piston a crank and a head plus some new gaskets. Those few things should cost a whole lot, but since im already replacing the pisons and head im trying to figure out if i should go bigger.
Does the wiseco top end kit include all the gaskets i need to rebuild?
If so that means i would be looking at ~400 for the kit, 125 for crank, then porting, boring, and machining the head i have no clue what would cost me. or i can get the crank for 125 and a used oem piston and head for probably pretty cheap.

Wiseco's have the ups and downs. You have to warm them up properly before just hopping on the ski and ripping it - or they'll seize.

just something to consider.

But they will take a ton more abuse than cast before letting go.

Avoid WSM pistons in my opinion, they will work, but aren't as good as stock. I can get you a good deal on Pro-X pistons (same as OEM Yamaha). I missed the original photos, is this a 61X or 62T cases? PM me whatcha got and I'll see what I can do for you.

My boring guy charges $70 per hole, but doesn't charge extra for big bore.

absolutely!!!!

I spoke with the maniac this morning for awhile about these motors.....You will be seeing some other options soon as well from him, very budget minded motors that pack a big punch!

The PRO-X pistons are no better than WSM IMHO,I have used both ,both come with RK ring sets, you would never know the difference between the two once installed, the PRO-X pistons are more expensive than WSM,if you want good cast pistons buy stock pistons or if you want someting tougher buy Wisecos,Wisecos have to be set up per their clearance specifications as do WSM,OEM or PRO-X pistons. The Wisecos will last longer if you due proper warm up procedures, they are more noisy because of the increased clearance they run being a forged piston.I can get you PRO-X ,WSM,or Wiseco pistons,as well as gaskets and seals.

So what you're saying is, if you do what you want to do with it, you'll be spending $525 for the bare necessity replacement parts. Then you want to spend another $300-$400 for work that you want done to it. Lets not forget the cases still need work just to be usable again. For record, I wouldn't use that head again even if I was in a major pinch!

Just my opinion here but maybe you should consider buying a ready to ride engine or even a cylinder that has already been ported. There are plenty of stock engines for sale for under $600 and plenty of built engines around $1000. Then sell all your parts that are still good and get what you can. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses. :grumble:
