R/N pole on a square

I put an xmw pole on my square and used the xmw roundnose bracket and it works awesome. I love the setup. Like other people said, the pole doesnt extend up as far as it should but it doesnt effect riding at all.

Ok, please explain... Is the SN mounting surface on a different angle than the pole mounting surface of the RN?

Yes....the Roundnose mounting area is angled slightly forward.
The squarenose mounting area is angled backward.

I've been working on this off and on this week. I was gonna do a write up on it, but this thread looks like the spot to post pics. I just made a plate 4x11.5x1/4 thick to sandwich the hull between it and the roundnose bracket, and drilled new holes. I used the old holes to mount the plate with the old straps from the top and the hood hooks. I was able to move the mounting bracket forward about an inch as well. The hook on the back of the roundnose bracket was getting in the way during mock up, so I cut it off. It would've been the perfect place to mount hood straps. :banghead: The first two pics show the difference in how high up the round pole comes up without grinding compared to the stock square setup.

I was getting ready to install an FX1 pole with an XMW bracket on my square yesterday.
However, after seeing that I need to do a little bit of glass work, I decided to wait until winter.

I already reinforced under there, and hopefull this plate will help. Same concept used to put roll cages in off road rigs. Different dimension plates on top and bottom to spread out the stress. We'll see.

edit : There was a bump underneath there I had to grind down to get my plate to sit flat. Not sure why it was there to begin with. To make the plate I just spent some time with a micrometer and sharpie. Then drilled the holes a few at a time to test fit.

I need to grind out that bump and fill it with glass.
Also, I have a dual hole XMW bracket. I am going to use it on my Roundnose eventually, which has a single hole XMW bracket right now. I want to swap - but it will involve glassing, and I don't want to get into that right now.

How did you get the pole to go so far up?

did you grind the end of the pole?

It's not been grinded yet. Just bolted on there. I haven't stood up there yet to see how it feels. I know it will come back farther when I'm in the water. It definitely gets in the way trying to work on the motor like that. The roundnose pole curves down more at the handbars than a squarenose pole does too.

Couple more pics. The pole hits on the left hand side when it's all the way up. I will probably grind a notch in the bracket if I need more room.

accbr,

does your bracket have the rubber bumper in the front of it?

I had to shave mine down a bit ( in conjunction with grinding the end of the pole)

if yours is missing, that explains why its going up further than mine.

No rubber bumper on mine. I didn't know they had one. That must be why mine will come up farther. Here's a better shot of it. Is that what those four holes are for? I was thinking about threading them if there's enough meat for some hood straps. Still trying to figure out the best way to put them back on.
