The velocity going through a single at higher rpm is pretty extreme. I doubt the SBN meters fuel like it was designed at almost twice the velocity it was ever designed to see.

it's till a sbn 44 filling a 61x cylinder. you change the case and now there is catastrophic failure?

no matter what case or cylinder, you are still only filling 701 cc's at atmospheric pressure. why would it fail to delever enough fuel?

then you would allow even more air though and no more fuel it would be worse. on the boat i run a single on im going back to a 44. all this only matters on wideopen runs and anyone who has been to lanier know we run wide open chasing the crusiers down.

You know, this is the oldest discussion on both boards............

IF you motor requires more air fuel mixture at WOT than a carb can deliver, it Will Lean Out.............................. This is not saying that every single setup will do this.......... and This mainly refers to running T Cases with with Ported cylinders............

If you still dont get it. Contact Todd LeChance (Owner of TLR) and ask him.......... "With my porting and the single carb conversion using my modified 44, you cannot run WOT for more than a few seconds" This was back in 2003 when he set up my motor.......... Is a single setup a bad setup, no, but it has its limitations......... I run Duals so I can run up the lake with everybody else that I ride with......... Plus, I like the power output of the Duals, I could go back single tomorrow and change my riding style and still be happy.

actually it will more likely go rich if the carb hit max airflow on a std carb

But if you run a modified carb thats only capable of flowing the same fuel as the stock carb but has a higher cfm ratio
then the fuel will hit max long before the air does

As usual the question should not be "Will it work with a single" but "What am I willing to give up".

I want to go to the water and ride. I want to hit that little green button and know that my ski is gonna do what I want it to do. I dont want to spend hours and hours tuning and chasing that last couple horsepower. Dont care about WOT either.

Yep, a single aint the fastest thing on the water. But losing that HP is worth it for.
1. One less mechanism to fail.
2. Cheaper rebuilds.
3. Only need to carry half as many carb spares.
4. Ease of tuning.
5. No synching.

My ski isn't the limiting factor on the water - it is clearly me.
As mentioned earlier, simplicity is a great thing.
I am going to go for it. I need to sell a couple more things, then I'll go for a single Riva 48.
If I do not like it, it shouldn't be too hard to sell and put my 44's back on.

They won't bolt to Yamaha cases. The Riva single carb manifold uses a 650 kawi style manifold (mounted to an adaptor plate). The 750 has a different pattern.

but the stock kawi 750 reed cages fit the 62t case right?

I thought the 750 manifold would too.

My buddy has ran his limited SJ for three years with stock carbs, and never has had any trouble, never needs to tear them down, and never needs to work on his ski at the water. I think some of this has to do with your tuning skills, and how you treat/take care of your boat. 2 cent, not calling anyone out.

^^^^Lol, I knew I would get something like that. I just dont see that dual carbs are any more of a hassle then a single, once tuned. Living in Florida, you realy shouldant have to play with much adjusting after properly tuned. I find running a single to be more of a worry then anything. I enjoy doing some WOT runs now and then.

It seems like most guys that realy know there stuff agree, that single carb wide open runs on a mod 62t case boat is asking for disaster. I have been told this time and time again.

Run whatever makes you happy, I like seeing carnage.lol

yes, that was a 48 that I bought down for you to measure.........i got it from chick, who got it from...on nevermind, you know the story...




but we also have a 46 on a ported T cased 701.....Bill was never able to make it run to the point he was happy with it (it ran good, but he wanted more bottom end..)....



i ran that single 48 on a portolicous 82mm wiseco bore.....ran GREAT until the waterjacket cracked due to missing a girtel stud..

now that 48 will top off my magoo 701 if I ever put it togehter...(on T cases of course..)
