FX-1 grate

Understood. In my case, I did not open up the water intake ( to superjet size )
So a scoop grate/ toploader is in order. I have gained lots of mid and even topend power. I'm looking for launching power and I feel the modified stocker just won't load up this new pump the way it could if I had a grate to feed it more water. All the big boys ( Worx, Jet Dynamics, R&D, etc. don't make one anymore. (That I can find, that is.) I know most do the 144 SJ conv , but It was way cheaper for me to go the kawi route. Right now, I'm tempted to take out some bars from the modified stocker. Any intel on where to get a better grate would be greatly appreciated. I know there are alot of kawi conversions out there... what are you guys running?

What prop are you running?

Check the BS ads, you'll find one if you dig hard enough.

FX-1 grate

I knew someone knew where to get one. This was exactly the information I needed. I appreciate it guys. I've got about 2 hours on this ski since the pump upgrade/front sponsons/feetholds were installed and it feels like a totally different machine. I love the way it turns now, & with a little more hookup it will be all my old butt will be able to handle for the rest of the year! Maybe I will throw up some pics when the paint is done.:woot:

Prop is unknown pitch, but it was pushing the 650sx it was in over 50 mph... eventually I will want to prolly go down in pitch. I might have access to 4-5 different props, but I am not ready to scrape silicone yet... I need more trigger time

What did the front sponsons do for the ski?

What difference did the pump conversion make?

With footholds do you ride with both feet in the back of the ski? Wouldn't that make it porpoise a lot?

I've only ridden mine 6 times so I'm looking for your real world opinions of each mod.

Thanks and congratulations on all of the mods.

With you being a new rider, your better off leaving it stock. Just ride the piss out of it.

I disagree. Every new mod comes with it's own new learning curve. If you are sure you will stay on FX-1 then mod the crap out of it. I don't think you have to suffer through crazy cavitation and "sucks in surf" syndrome- just mod the pump immediately! All you learn w/ a 122 mm pump is that you don't like it! Sponsons are great! They make hardcore turning much more controlled. As for feetholds... the FX-1 tray is smaller than most so use caution when deciding which to run. Look for something that GAINS tray real estate rather than one that uses it up.( ala"special fx" and many other's pix right here on the X ):noevil:

All these mods require down time-- right now is not wrenching season. Ride the ski, mod later.

Theres an off season??
Im considering buying a wetsuit and looking for another fx1 hull so i can wrench and ride anytime!

I do ride "off season" but it's more for keeping muscle memory than anything else. Not counting Daytona, of course. Cold water sux. Unless it's in a river below a dam thats generating. Then it's wetsuit in July!:silly:

Yeah I will wait for the pump conversion till next winter. I love riding the fx-1. I haven't ridden anything else to compare it to though. I do enjoy the challenge which is the reason I bought the ski.

It seems to have tons of torque to pull out of the water at slow speeds. It pulls like my cbr 929rr and jumps out of the water (front ~ 3ft and rear ~2 inches).

When does the cavitation problem happen (at speed)?

How does the fx-1 compare to the 08 superjet? In the test video of the 08 superjet, it looked like the guy was able to put the ski anywhere he wanted. I'm assuming this was because he was very experienced?

I would love to be able to lean over and carve deeply (like they do in racing). This is possible with the fx-1 right?

Even more so. The 08 SJ has race inspired factory changes to the bottom that lends itself way more toward racing than freestyle. That being said, the FX-1 set a record for buoy course when it came out as a factory standup.(I believe) This was when it was competing with Kaw 750 & 701 SJ. There is no doubt that when using an all stock set-up, it's a topend boat only. The FX-1 is a slug from a holeshot perspective. If you think it pulls hard from the hole, try a SJ on for size.( much stronger ) In order to get this type of ability from an FX-1, modding the hull is mandatory. The two most effective mods are "tubbie" sponsons & pump upgrade. I paid someone to do mine, and it was not cheap. I have more in feetholds, sponsons, and pump conversion than I paid for the ski. The reason is that FX-1's are a special breed of standup that are hand laid hulls made from glass rather than cheapo SMC. It is much stronger and lighter than other mainstream skis. ( 50-60 lbs!) Carbon/Kevlar skis are a luxury I will never be able to afford. Good luck.:reporter:
