im looking at the go pro line...but ran across the oregon scientific brand...anyone know if they are any good?

im looking to get footage of the o-side crew to help make some longer vids by combining my footage with the others that are filming.

i was going to get the go pro 5mp wide angle, but was informed its too hard to get good shots because you have to be too close to get good shots. so i am looking at other options.

any advice or suggestions is greatly appreciated

i think stan (fiveOaddict) uses the oregon sci camera. check out his pismo vids and see if you like the quality. from watching his and watchin the o-side vids, i would go with a go-pro. i just cant decide between the wide angle and standard. anyone else have any input on which ones they like better?

i had an oregon sci cam and found it very difficult to use it because it wouldnt tape exactly what i was looking at.

I think the wide angle of the go pro would make filming off the helmet a lot easier. thats what i plan to buy when i replace my oregon sci thats at the bottom of the ocean

I owned/own both, and I'd take the Go Pro hands down. Quality is a lot better, mounting options are endless, and its a lot more user friendly. I have the standard lens GoPro, but thinking of going to the wide angle myself.

It's a double edged sword...Wide angle for the good "less jittery" viewing VS. a little closer "zoomed in" view. I experimented for years with this stuff and the general audience can't handle the jerky motion...it tires them out. Go with the wide angle. The latest OC/fearless vid was great, easy to watch. The best would be to mix up the camera's and locations.
Keep up the good work!

Wide angle if you want to film yourself, standard lens if you want to film others.

Yup X2--Ed compare these two recent videos. “Oceanside 3-25-09”, which was filmed with my regular lens Go-pro and “Oceanside 3-29-09 on board GP wide angle”, which of course was filmed by the wide angle lens Go-pro. The first was shot by me and the second was shot by Mark. Mark also edited both of these videos. This will give you an idea of what to expect with each camera.

the older standard lens go pro was not a 5 meg cmos cam like the new one is.You will get better qual out of the newer standard lens.
Im trying to find out how difficult it will be to switch between lens and have both.To me 1st person action gets old real quick, good vids are always shot of others riding at close prox, and the wide angle lens cam we have makes everything look way to distant unless you are RIGHT on top of them.
